Ventilation duct cleaning in Reading, done properly

We always start by inspecting. We look inside the ductwork at set points and record what’s there, and cleaning is recommended where the inspection shows it’s due. That way the work matches the real condition. If you have ductwork never cleaned since it was installed and rooms that feel airless when the system runs, we can help.

Offices, schools and hotels in Reading stay in use while their ventilation is cleaned, so it’s phased floor by floor or done out of hours.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes a day or less for a small system and a series of visits for a large one, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Where a site in Reading has more than one system, we can take them one at a time to keep the rest running.

  1. First the system is surveyed, on site or from photos and drawings.
  2. Ducts are inspected at access points and the condition recorded.
  3. We protect the rooms beneath and switch the system off.
  4. Debris is cleared from the duct runs, then grilles and diffusers are cleaned.
  5. We issue a TR19® certificate and a photo report listing what was cleaned.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Getting a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Advice

FAQs for Reading

Can ventilation in schools around Reading be cleaned out of term?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 29 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Reading. Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Can you come to Reading after we close?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Reading doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

How far ahead should we book?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

How often should ventilation ductwork be cleaned?

TR19® Air is risk-based, so cleaning follows inspection rather than a fixed calendar. We suggest a next inspection date after every visit.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

It depends on the building. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, facilities manager or managing agent.

Do you survey the system first?

Yes, always. We check the layout, access and condition, so the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

What should I send you?

Some photos and a quick description of the system plus the address and your hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

What ventilation duct cleaning can’t fix

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Damaged ductwork beyond cleaning
  • Ventilation that’s undersized for the building
  • Kitchen extract ductwork, which needs a TR19® Grease clean

If you are not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What the work covers

  • Supply ductwork
  • Offices and schools
  • Hospitals and care homes
  • Toilet extract systems
  • General extract ductwork
  • Grilles and diffusers

How we price ventilation duct cleaning

Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The times the site is available
  • The size of the system
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits

A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before work begins.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

To get a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Different parts, different methods

Hospitals and care homes

People in hospitals and care homes can be more vulnerable to poor air. Inspecting and cleaning to TR19® Air supports good air quality.

Supply ductwork

Anything in a supply duct can end up in the rooms it feeds. Cleaning it deals with the source.

Keeping the system healthy

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Keep grilles and diffusers dusted
  • Store cleaning certificates where auditors can find them
  • Keep vents and grilles clear of shelving and stock
  • Do not run the ventilation while builders are sanding or cutting

The report includes a recommended date for the next inspection, based on what we found. Put it in the diary now so it doesn’t slip.

TR19® Air works through regular inspection. Inspecting on a schedule catches build-up before it becomes a big clean.

Leave it or put it right?

Leave dust in the ductwork and it keeps building. Every year adds to the job, and more of it finds its way back into the building. The longer a system in Reading goes without attention, the more there is to clean or fix.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
