TR19 inspection in South Croydon

Post-clean verification is a check carried out once the cleaning is done, with fresh grease readings, photos and a look at the areas that were cleaned. It shows whether the system was left in the condition the paperwork describes. If you have pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean and ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits, we can help, from post-clean checks, wet film thickness tests and pre-clean surveys onwards.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. For a kitchen in South Croydon, that normally means a longer system to clean and more access panels to plan around.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Aftercare tips

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request
  • Flag oily drips near the extract
  • Diary the next grease test and clean
  • Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs

You get a report with the grease readings, where they were taken and pictures of each point. Keep it with your fire safety and TR19 records.

When cooking hours or the menu change, check the interval still fits. Fresh readings show whether it needs to change.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The times the site is available

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

What TR19 inspection cannot fix

TR19 inspection cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
  • Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
  • A faulty or failing extract fan

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Access surveys
  • Insurer audits
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Post-clean checks
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Wet film thickness tests

What happens if it’s left?

Without readings, you are guessing when to clean. If grease reaches 500 microns anywhere, TR19® Grease calls for immediate spot cleaning, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. London sites work long hours, and the longer a job is left, the bigger it gets.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What you get with us

  • Fixed quotes from a survey or pictures
  • Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
  • Full insurance on every job
  • A BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease

How it works

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Expect the work in South Croydon to happen after your last customer leaves, not during trading.

  1. Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
  2. We open the access points used on the clean.
  3. Grease readings are taken again at set points.
  4. We photograph each area to record how it was left.
  5. We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

Ask for a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.

What TR19 inspection looks like in South Croydon

The FSA’s data shows about 21 pubs and bars and about 11 hotels and B&Bs registered in and around South Croydon, up to about a mile and a half out. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Most London extract cleaning happens at night, after the last service. It’s Croydon council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in South Croydon. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

For kitchens close to Sanderstead station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Purley War Memorial Hospital about 1.2 miles south-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. For schools such as Purley Oaks Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.
