TR19 inspection for sites in City of Westminster

TR19 inspection in City of Westminster, done properly

A pre-clean survey looks at the whole system, from canopy to discharge. Access is checked along the full length, and record grease readings at set points. The work covers access surveys, pre-clean surveys and post-clean checks, and people most often call us about ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits and an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit.

In a London area like City of Westminster, a kitchen extract often passes through shared space on its way out: a riser, a service void, the floors above. Grease in a duct like that is a fire risk to the whole building, not just the kitchen, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What the work involves, part by part

Extract fan and discharge

We look at where the extract discharges outside, as grease can build up there too.

Vertical risers

Vertical risers take the extract up through the floors. Grease can run down and collect at the base, so we check there.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

Between visits

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Report grease dripping from the canopy
  • Keep to the recommended interval
  • Clean grease off the canopy between professional cleans
  • Keep the route to access panels clear

Keep the verification report next to the certificate it relates to. Together they show the system was cleaned and checked.

Keep filters clean and in place. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.

What TR19 inspection looks like in City of Westminster

The FSA’s data shows about 229 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 280 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses registered in City of Westminster and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. City of Westminster sits within the area of London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Night work suits London kitchens, and roads and loading bays tend to be quieter too.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like St Vincent's Catholic Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. A hospital like Fortius Clinic, about within half a mile north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Church and community hall kitchens, near St Mark's or anywhere around City of Westminster, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

How it works

A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, make the system safe, carry out the TR19 inspection, clear away and leave you the report. On site, the work takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. Most London sites cannot stop for the day, so work in City of Westminster is usually done overnight, early in the morning or at weekends.

  1. We go through any past certificates and reports.
  2. We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
  3. Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
  4. We measure the grease and photograph each point.
  5. You get a report and a fixed quote for the clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

Ask for a quote

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

How we price TR19 inspection

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • What state the system is in

You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

What we need to know

You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:

  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

Need a price for TR19 inspection? Please ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with a few details about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Leave it or put it right?

If there’s a fire or a claim, your insurer may ask for TR19 records. Without them, a claim can be reduced or refused. Getting an inspection done now starts that paper trail. A booked night’s work in City of Westminster costs you no trading time; an unplanned closure does.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What do you need to know about parking in City of Westminster?

London parking can be tight, so details of loading bays and permits help. Night visits tend to make loading easier on London streets.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around City of Westminster out of term?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Food Standards Agency records list about 78 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of City of Westminster. You can call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the dates the site is empty.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we’ll quote them together.

Do you cover City of Westminster?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, City of Westminster included.

What happens to the waste?

We take it away at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.

Which accreditations do you hold?

Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

Can you quote from pictures?

Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.
