About kitchen extract cleaning in UB1
Has the extract gone a while without a clean, or has the paperwork gone missing? Just call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with photos of the canopy and filters, and we will come back with a fixed price for the work in UB1, typically within one working day. We’re often asked to deal with a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction and ductwork thick with old, hardened grease, across vertical risers, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs.
Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system.
- First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
- Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
- On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
- Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
- We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Kitchen extracts across UB1
Across UB1, from Southall, Greenford and Yeading outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.
From central London kitchens to coastal hotels and country pubs, London and the South East have every kind of site. Wherever the site is in UB1, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.
Dormers Wells: Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; St Bernard's Hospital is the nearest hospital to Dormers Wells, about 0.9 miles south-east. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Dormers Wells Junior School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.
Different parts, different methods
Restaurant and pub kitchens
A pub or restaurant cannot afford to cancel a service for a clean. We work overnight and at weekends where that suits, and hand back a clean kitchen ready to cook.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
Some healthcare kitchens never fully close. Cleans are planned between meals or overnight with as little disruption as possible.
What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- How big the system is
We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.
Helping us quote
We can often survey from photos. Try to include:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.
What staff can safely do
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Keeping the system healthy
Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow
- Wash or exchange the filters often
- Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
- Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, giving you before and after readings alongside the photos. A TR19 certificate follows, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. It will not replace a TR19 clean, but it slows what reaches the duct.
Why act early?
Putting it off simply moves the grease further down the duct. Over time, soft grease bakes into a harder, thicker crust, and that takes more work to shift. Regular cleans keep each visit shorter.

UB1 questions
What’s TR19?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?
The minimum is set by BESA guidance on daily use, from 3-monthly to 12-monthly. Heavy frying and grilling can mean shorter intervals, and readings will tell you.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?
A TR19 certificate, plus a full photo report. It records what was cleaned, what wasn’t accessible and the recommended next clean date.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.
Which sectors do you work in?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
What does a TR19 kitchen extract clean include?
A TR19 Grease clean covers the full extract route, not just the canopy. Canopy, plenum, filters, ductwork, risers, fan and discharge are all included, reached through access panels where needed.
