Kitchen extract cleaning in RH17: how it works

A closed kitchen is not earning, so the timing of a clean matters. Cleans are booked for evenings, overnight or weekends, or during holidays where a site closes for them. Equipment is switched off and left to cool, the area is sheeted, and the kitchen is handed back ready to cook. The work covers horizontal duct runs, discharge points and vertical risers, and common reasons people get in touch are proof of cleaning requested by an insurer and ductwork thick with old, hardened grease.

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.

  1. You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

Pricing in RH17

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before we start.

What you get with us

  • Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus 24/7 emergency callout
  • In business since 2009
  • Fixed quotes from a survey or pictures
  • Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Local landmarks in Cuckfield

Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to The Rose And Crown Public House, Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School and Warden Park School, among other places. You’ll also find Warden Park School (within half a mile south-east) and Holy Trinity Church (less than half a mile south-west). The nearest railway station is Haywards Heath station, roughly 1.5 miles east. A little further out are Waterbury Castle (4.8 miles north-east) and Cuckfield Museum (less than half a mile south-west). Green spaces nearby include Blunts Wood and Paiges Meadow.

Kitchen extracts across RH17

Kitchens across RH17 cook for very different hours, from all-day town-centre sites to part-time hall and school kitchens. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.

Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites across RH17 don’t have to lose a day.

Cuckfield: Church and community hall kitchens, near Holy Trinity Church or anywhere around Cuckfield, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Ockenden Manor is about 0.4 miles south-west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

What affects the quote in RH17

Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • The condition of the system
  • Travel, parking and unloading

What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Getting a quote does not take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Keeping the system healthy

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise straight away
  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate

We hand the kitchen back clean, with the sheeting removed and waste taken away. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, so you can start cooking as normal.

Keep the outside of the canopy wiped and any grease cups emptied. A daily wipe is not a deep clean, but it helps between visits.

What the work involves, part by part

Canopy and plenum

The canopy catches the vapour, and the plenum behind the filters is where it first condenses. Both are scraped and degreased inside and out, with the filter housing cleaned too.

Schools, hospitals and care homes

School kitchens can look lightly used but still need a TR19 clean at least every 12 months under BESA guidance. School holidays are an easy time to do it.

Why deal with it now?

If there’s a fire and the extract hasn’t been cleaned, the paperwork becomes the problem. Many insurers ask for proof of TR19 cleaning and may reduce or refuse a claim without it. A certificate in the file answers that question.

Questions to ask before you book

  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

Common problems we fix in RH17

A kitchen in RH17 builds up grease in the same places as any other: long horizontal runs, bends, the base of risers and around the fan. The cooler the duct, the more grease drops out of the air.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • A TR19 certificate needed for the insurer
  • An extract that has never been cleaned to TR19
  • Stale cooking odours from the system
  • Poor airflow at the canopy

Questions from RH17

How long will the clean take?

Length of duct, grease levels and access all affect it. As a guide, it takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.

Where does the waste go?

We take it away at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.

What accreditations do you hold?

As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, our work sits within an independently audited scheme. We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 too, and we’re fully insured.

Do we have to close the kitchen for the clean?

The clean is done when the kitchen is not cooking, so evenings, overnight, early mornings and weekends are all options. We need the equipment switched off and cooled first.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. We always survey first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.

Is a quote from photos possible?

In many cases, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.
