About kitchen extract cleaning in RH11
Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Common call-outs are for grease smells coming from the extract and an extract that no longer clears the smoke, on plenums and filters, canopies and hoods and extract fans.
Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows.
- We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
- We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
- With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
- Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
- Readings and pictures are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.
How we quote
Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.
Why choose Duct Doctor
- A written report with photos after every visit
- Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus 24/7 emergency callout
- Fixed quotes, normally within one working day
- In business since 2009
How to get a quote
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few photos and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us.
Around Broadfield
Typical jobs here are in premises near Target Hill Park, Discovery New School and The New Moon pub and the streets around them. You will also find Cottesmore School (0.7 miles south-west), Seymour Primary School (less than half a mile north) and Christ The Lord (within half a mile north-east). For rail, the closest station is Crawley station, roughly 1.4 miles north-east of the centre. A little further out are Crawley Hospital (1.5 miles north) and Crawley Museum (1.7 miles north-east). Open spaces near Broadfield include Tilgate Lake.
Kitchen extracts across RH11
In RH11, we work in places such as Crawley, Broadfield and Bewbush and well beyond. Every place on our RH11 list (12 in all) is covered, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.
London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. Wherever the site is in RH11, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.
Broadfield: A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Christ The Lord or elsewhere in Broadfield, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Tyes Place is about 4.4 miles south-east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.
Why deal with it now?
If there’s a fire and the extract hasn’t been cleaned, the paperwork becomes the problem. Many policies require cleaning to TR19, and an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. A current certificate is far easier to produce than an explanation.
What your quote should include
- How they set the interval to the next visit
- Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Exactly which parts of the system are covered
Fixed quotes for kitchen extract cleaning in RH11
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- The condition of the system
- The scale of the work
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
Helping us quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- The site address and the type of premises
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before we start.
Part by part
Canopy and plenum
Canopies vary from a single hood to long runs over several appliances, each section is cleaned and photographed before and after.
Ductwork and risers
Vertical risers carry the air up through the building, and grease runs down their walls and pools at the base. They’re cleaned through access points along their height.
When something else is needed
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- Fat blocking the kitchen drains
- A fan motor that has burnt out
- Damaged duct sections that need replacing
Managing agents and facilities teams in RH11
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in RH11 and across West Sussex. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.
RH11 questions
How do you protect the area?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
What happens to the waste?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. We do not leave it behind.
What do I get after the clean?
You get both a certificate and a photo report. Keep them in the maintenance log with the fire risk assessment, ready for your insurer or an inspection.
Do you cover RH11?
Yes. We work in RH11 and across West Sussex, within our South East and London area. To book, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
What is TR19?
BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.
What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?
BESA guidance gives minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on daily cooking hours. Heavy frying and grilling can mean shorter intervals, and readings will tell you.
Is a quote from pictures possible?
Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.
