Grease trap cleaning in Earley
Smells from the sink, gurgling drains or slow drainage all point to the grease trap. We find the trap, empty it and clean it and run water through to check it drains. The work covers restaurants and takeaways, kitchen waste pipes and inline grease traps, and people most often call us about an inline trap or interceptor due for cleaning and gurgling drains in the kitchen.
Grease traps fill up with fat and food scraps, and a full trap lets fat through to the drains. Emptying and cleaning on a schedule keeps drains in Earley running.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Your questions about grease trap cleaning in Earley
Do you clean school kitchens in Earley in the summer holidays?
Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 20 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Earley, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Earley?
Food hygiene inspections in Earley are carried out by Wokingham council. An officer may look behind equipment and at drains, so it pays to have the deep clean booked before those areas build up.
Can you clear our blocked drains as well?
Our service covers the grease trap itself. Where the problem is further down the drain, we will say so so you can call a drainage contractor.
Which accreditations do you hold?
CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.
Do we need to stop using the sinks while you work?
Only briefly, and only the sinks that feed the trap. We plan the visit for a quieter time where we can.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.
How the visit works
A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, make the system safe, carry out the grease trap cleaning, clear away and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. A few pictures of the system and its access points help us plan a visit in Earley.
- First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
- The sinks feeding the trap are kept out of use while we work.
- We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
- We clean the chambers, baffles and connections.
- The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.
Before we arrive
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
How to get a quote
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

How we price grease trap cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- The scale of the work
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- What state the system is in
- Whether several sites go on one quote
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.
What we need to know
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Your last certificate, test record or report
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before any work starts.
What the work involves, part by part
Under-sink grease traps
Small grease traps sit under the sink. They fill quickly and need regular cleaning.
Inline grease traps
Several sinks may drain into one inline trap. That means more grease, so regular cleaning matters.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
Earley kitchens: local notes
The Food Standards Agency lists about 16 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses in Earley and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Pub and hotel kitchens get the same build-up behind equipment and in the grease trap as any other. It’s Wokingham council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Earley. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. A cleaning log that includes deep cleans and grease trap visits shows the work is planned.
School kitchens, at schools like Radstock Primary School for example, usually have their deep cleans and grease trap work done while the canteen is closed. Hall kitchens near Trinity Church or elsewhere in Earley may have older sinks and drains, so a grease trap check is worth adding to a deep clean.

Between visits
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:
- Tell us if your menu or hours change
- Get food waste into the bin, not the sink
- Never pour used oil down the sink
- Make sure the trap can be reached easily
Scrape plates into the bin before washing up. Use strainers in the sink plugholes before they reach the trap.
More cooking means more grease in the trap. Shortening the cleaning interval now keeps the drains flowing.
