Grease filter exchange for sites in Hillstreet

Kitchen extracts in Hillstreet

At about 3 miles from the coast, Hillstreet is close enough for sea air to matter. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 4 bars, pubs and nightclubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Hillstreet. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. In Hillstreet, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from New Forest council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

For schools such as Calmore Junior School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Anne's or elsewhere in Hillstreet, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. A hospital like Tatchbury Mount Hospital, about 1.1 miles south-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Grease filter exchange for kitchens and businesses in Hillstreet

In Hillstreet, our filter exchange runs on a schedule set by how much the kitchen cooks. The heavier the cooking, the more often filters need changing while a lighter kitchen can go longer. We agree the interval with you at the start. If you’re dealing with filters left unwashed on busy weeks and grease filters clogged with grease, we can help.

Work in a small place like Hillstreet starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Questions from Hillstreet

Can you get to a site in Hillstreet?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Hillstreet included. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Hillstreet out of term?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. With about 4 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Hillstreet, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

What’s the right interval for changing filters?

The right interval depends on the kitchen. If filters are dripping or clogging before the next change, it’s too long and we’ll adjust it.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.

What types of premises do you cover?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. Every report includes a recommended date for the next visit, based on use and what we found.

Do I get a report after the visit?

Yes. Every visit ends with a written report and pictures, showing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, there’s also a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What happens on the day

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Hillstreet.

  1. First, we check the canopies and the filters in them.
  2. Any damaged or missing filters are noted.
  3. We exchange the dirty filters for a clean set.
  4. The filters are checked for fit before we go.
  5. We tell you if the plenum or canopy needs a clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

Advice

Multi-site and managed buildings

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Hampshire. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

Aftercare tips

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Keep every filter in place during service
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is in use
  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Mention it if the kitchen gets busier

Keep an eye out for filters that have been taken out. A missing filter leaves a gap for grease, so let us know if one goes missing or gets damaged.

Clean filters plus regular full cleans keep the system in good health. A maintenance plan that covers both means neither slips.

What grease filter exchange can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • Grease already built up in the ductwork, which needs a full TR19 clean
  • A canopy too small for the cooking beneath it
  • A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Where we work

  • Baffle filters
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies
  • Mesh filters

Why deal with it now?

When filters block, extraction suffers. Heat and fumes hang in the kitchen while the fan strains. A regular exchange keeps the airflow where it should be. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Part by part

Busy restaurant and pub kitchens

High-output kitchens clog filters quickly. Their exchange schedule is typically the tightest.

Canopy filter housings

The trough or channel under the filters fills with grease. If it needs attention, we’ll tell you.

What staff can safely do

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
