Grease filter exchange in Cote

Cleaning filters by hand takes staff time and is easy to put off. With a filter exchange, we bring a clean set and take the dirty one away, so the canopy is never left without filters. The work covers mesh filters, school and hospital kitchens and wall canopies, and the jobs we see most are smoke and heat lingering under the hood and grease building up behind the canopy filters.

For a kitchen in or near Cote, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Cote

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Aftercare tips

Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Tell us if a filter is bent or damaged
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is in use
  • Keep the canopy clear for exchange visits
  • Tell us if the menu or opening hours change

Keep an eye out for filters that have been taken out. A missing filter leaves a gap for grease, so let us know if one goes missing or gets damaged.

A kitchen that is getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Changing the interval early stops grease building up unseen behind the canopy.

What affects the cost of grease filter exchange

Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Travel, parking and unloading

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.

What to send for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any previous report or certificate

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What the work involves, part by part

Mesh filters

Grease lodges deep in the layers of a mesh filter, which makes hand-washing hard work.

The plenum

Behind the filters sits the plenum, where air gathers before the duct. It collects whatever grease the filters miss.

When to call us in Cote

Hand-washed filters often come back still greasy. Grease hides in the folds of a baffle or the layers of a mesh, and a quick rinse leaves it there.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Blocked baffle filters
  • Filter washing that keeps being missed
  • Bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly
  • Grease left in baffles after washing

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Symphorian's Church, or anywhere in Cote, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Before booking anyone

  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor

Cote questions

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Cote during the holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 6 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Cote, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Cote?

It’s West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Cote. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

How far ahead should we book?

For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

What happens to the dirty filters?

They leave with us. That’s how an exchange works: you always have a clean set fitted and nothing greasy left on site.

Which records should we keep?

Visit reports, certificates and your in-house cleaning logs. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs may all ask to see them, so keep them where they can be found quickly.

Do you handle baffle and mesh filters?

Both baffle filters and mesh filters are covered. We record the sizes and number of filters at the start so every set we bring fits.

How long does the visit take?

We’ll confirm the time with your quote. For a typical site, it takes well under an hour for most canopies.

Cote kitchens: local notes

At about 3 miles from the coast, Cote is close enough for sea air to matter. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. There are about 9 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 9 sandwich bars and takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Cote, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Swapping filters on a schedule keeps kitchens like these drawing air properly. Fire safety in Cote falls to West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Ecclesden Manor, about 2.5 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses near Cote; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions. Leave it or put it right?

Grease dripping from the canopy is a sign the filters can’t hold any more. Left, it ends up on equipment, food areas and staff, which an EHO may well notice. A fault that closes a site in a village like Cote affects everyone who depends on it.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before we start.

Why book with us

  • Every job surveyed first
  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
  • Fixed quotes, typically within one working day
  • BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease

How the visit works

We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. Somewhere like Cote, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
  2. An exchange schedule is agreed to suit your cooking.
  3. The dirty set is lifted out.
  4. A clean set is fitted and checked for gaps.
  5. The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.

How to prepare

  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

How to get a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before work begins.
