About our canopy cleaning in Cote

Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers island canopies, baffle filters and wall canopies, and the jobs we see most are grease channels that no longer drain and a greasy hood noticed by an inspector.

Work in a small place like Cote starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Good records are part of the job. You get a written report with photos after every visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

How the job changes from site to site

Island canopies

With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.

Wall canopies

A long wall canopy may hold several sections of filters. Each section’s plenum and housing is cleaned in turn, with pictures for each.

Kitchen extracts in Cote

The coast is only about 3 miles from Cote. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 9 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 9 takeaways in Cote and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Environmental health officers from Worthing council inspect food businesses in Cote. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Historic houses near Cote, such as Ecclesden Manor about 2.5 miles south-west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. A hospital like The Acre, about 2.8 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. School kitchens, at schools like Durrington Junior School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Cote is about 2 miles north-west of Worthing, in West Sussex. Every kind of commercial site in Cote, we can take on canopy cleaning. Visits can be booked for evenings, overnight or weekends so trading isn’t interrupted. Our West Sussex coverage runs to 371 places, and Cote is one of them. Brighton is in our area too, about 13 miles from Cote.

Work in BN13 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. If your site is just outside Cote, we cover Durrington (1 mile south-east), High Salvington (1 mile north-east), Clapham (1 mile west), Patching (2 miles west) and Findon (2 miles north). We also work in nearby towns such as Bognor Regis (12 miles west), Burgess Hill (15 miles north-east), Littlehampton (5 miles south-west), Shoreham-by-Sea (7 miles east), Lancing (4 miles east) and Rustington (4 miles south-west).

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think before booking.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Cote

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

FAQs for Cote

Does being near the coast affect canopy cleaning in Cote?

It can. Cote is within about 3 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. Outdoor metalwork near the sea is worth inspecting at every visit.

Do you cover smaller places like Cote?

Yes. Cote is within the area we cover across London and the South East. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?

The filters are removed, cleaned and put back. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.

Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?

Out-of-hours cleans are how we work, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. The kitchen is handed back ready to cook.

What do you do with what you remove?

We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.

How much does canopy cleaning cost?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote and we will normally reply within one working day.

What should I send you?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few photos and any previous report.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Cote, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
  4. We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
  5. Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

How to get a quote

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • What state the system is in
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before any work starts.

What we need to know

A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Why act early in Cote

Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. A flare-up can catch it and be drawn into the plenum and duct, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. Somewhere as small as Cote, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.
