Greater London · Extract fan cleaning
Extract fan cleaning in Croydon, Greater London
One call covers extract fan cleaning in Croydon: survey, fixed quote, work and sign-off. CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, ISO 9001 and fully insured.
- A motor area thick with grease
- A fan that has never been cleaned
- Hot, greasy smells near the fan
Why deal with it now?
A fan clean in Croydon does not take long: the work takes an hour or two for most single fans. Waiting adds vibration, wear and a harder clean. A booked night’s work in Croydon costs you no trading time; an unplanned closure does.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
Why us?

About our extract fan cleaning in Croydon
Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with an extract fan with no cleaning record and hot, greasy smells near the fan, on in-line fans, centrifugal fans and roof-mounted fans.
Kitchens in Croydon, like many across London, can share a building with flats or offices, with the duct running up through shared risers. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

How the visit works
Our technicians bring everything the work needs, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes an hour or two for most single fans. If your building in Croydon has sign-in rules, permits or key holders, mention them when you book.
- The fan is found and its type, access and isolation checked.
- It’s isolated so it can’t run while we work.
- We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
- The fan is degreased, taking care around the motor.
- It’s closed up, run, checked and photographed for the report.
Preparing for the visit
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
How to get a quote
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, call 0345 646 2711 or email us.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
Different parts, different methods
Roof-mounted fans
Roof fans also discharge grease onto the roof around them, so the outlet area is checked too. Heavy staining is noted on the report.
Impellers and blades
The blades of the impeller do the work, and grease builds up on them unevenly. That’s what unbalances the fan, so it’s cleaned carefully blade by blade.
What a clean will not put right
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so these are the things it will not cover:
- Electrical faults in the fan’s supply or controls (an electrician’s job)
- Grease in the canopy and ductwork
- A failed motor or worn bearings (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

Common problems we fix in Croydon
A fan in Croydon builds up grease at a rate set by the kitchen, not the location: daily hours and the amount of frying and grilling. Under BESA guidance, the whole system, fan included, needs cleaning at least every 3, 6 or 12 months depending on daily hours.
It’s time to book a visit if you see:
- Vibration from an unbalanced impeller
- A noisy fan that has got louder over time
- Fat spreading onto the roof or wall by the fan
- A motor area thick with grease
School kitchens, at schools like Heathfield Academy for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Your questions about extract fan cleaning in Croydon
Is parking a problem for work in Croydon?
London parking can be tight, so details of loading bays and permits help. Much of our London work is done overnight, which helps.
Do you work at weekends in Croydon?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The site is handed back ready to open. Just ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your opening times and we will plan around them.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.
What if the fan needs more than a clean?
Anything beyond cleaning is flagged, with what we found. We can repair or replace it, and there’s a 24/7 emergency callout for breakdowns.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you will get one fixed quote.
Is the fan included in a TR19 clean?
Yes. A TR19 Grease clean covers everything from canopy to discharge, and the fan sits right in that path, so it’s cleaned too.
How far ahead should we book?
The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes typically come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
How long will it take to clean the fan?
That depends on the fan’s size, its position and how much grease there is. Typically it takes an hour or two for most single fans.
What extract fan cleaning looks like in Croydon
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 28 pubs, bars and clubs and about 20 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in and around Croydon, up to about a mile and a half out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Most London extract cleaning happens at night, after the last service. Croydon is covered by London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
A kitchen near South Croydon station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Croydon University Hospital (about 1.7 miles north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Aftercare tips
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Keep the grease filters clean and in place
- Keep each photo report with the maintenance log
- Flag smoke lingering at the canopy
- Look for grease stains near the discharge
You get before and after pictures of the impeller and housing. It lists what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, along with the recommended next clean date.
Keep the route to the fan clear. A fan that can be reached safely is a fan that gets cleaned, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.
