Ductwork cleaning in Send

Ductwork cleaning in Send

We treat ductwork like a doctor treats arteries: find the blockages, clear them, then check the flow is right. Grease readings before and after give you the evidence, alongside before and after photos. If you have fat dripping from the ductwork and a rancid smell from the extract duct, we can help, from access panels, attenuators and bends and junctions onwards.

In a smaller place like Send, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.

We’ve been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

When something else is needed

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Ductwork that is corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)
  • A damper stuck open in the duct
  • A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What the work covers

Grease, kitchens and Send

Look up Send on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 6 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 6 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Send. The duct above a busy canopy coats itself in grease long before anyone sees it. Send is covered by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. In Send, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Guildford council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

A hospital like Woking Community Hospital, about 2.1 miles north-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. School kitchens, at schools like Send CofE Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Send is about 3 miles south-east of Woking, in Surrey. We carry out ductwork cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in Send and the rest of Surrey. We cover 395 places across Surrey, from busy centres to quieter spots.

Here we cover the GU23 postcode area for ductwork cleaning. You’ll find streets such as Sandy Lane, Farm Lane and Sandfields, and we cover them all for ductwork cleaning. If your site is just outside Send, we cover Send Marsh (1 mile east), Burntcommon (1 mile east), Sutton Green (1 mile south-west), Mayford (2 miles west) and Pyle Hill (2 miles west). Further out, we also cover Guildford (3 miles south-west), Woking (3 miles north-west), Camberley (9 miles west), Epsom (12 miles east), Farnham (13 miles south-west) and Ewell (13 miles east).

What the work involves, part by part

Bends and transitions

Transitions from the canopy spigot into the duct catch a lot of grease. We clean it from the canopy side or through a nearby panel.

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A fire in a duct in a shared building can affect far more than one kitchen, which makes keeping it clean all the more important. Your certificate and report give building managers the record they need.

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Send

A greasy duct is a fire path, in Send as anywhere. Burning grease can carry fire through the ductwork to other rooms or floors, which is why the responsible person needs it under control.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A duct nobody has opened in years
  • Years of grease along the duct floor
  • Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
  • Grease leaking from duct joints

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Clandon Park is about 2.9 miles south), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

Questions to ask before booking

Why act early in Send

BESA guidance says grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans. Anywhere that reaches 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning. Putting off the clean only pushes readings higher. Systems on quieter sites still build up dirt and wear, just more slowly.

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.

The process

Every visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, make the system safe, carry out the ductwork cleaning, tidy up and leave you the report. On site, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Around Send, access is usually simpler than in a town centre, though gates and roof access are worth mentioning.

  1. First we diagnose: the route, the access and the grease levels.
  2. A fixed quote follows, based on what we found.
  3. Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
  4. Bends, risers and the base of each riser get extra attention.
  5. The duct is signed off with readings, photos and a next clean date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Clear loose items from the work area

Advice

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Send

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Send?

In Send, it’s Guildford council that carries out food hygiene inspections. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Do you cover smaller places like Send?

Yes, Send is part of our area, however small the site. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Do you install duct access panels?

Yes, we do. The survey or clean shows where sections couldn’t be reached, and fitting them means future cleans are more complete.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

What types of premises do you cover?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

What happens to the waste?

It leaves the site with us when we go. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.

What does TR19 mean?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?

Through access panels along the duct. Thick deposits are removed by hand before degreasing, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.

Between visits

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Keep your cleaning records together
  • Keep access panels clear of stored items
  • Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
  • Run the extract fan throughout service

After the clean, the same points are tested again, so the report shows the before and after figures. Photos of each section go alongside them.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.
