Need canopy cleaning in Patching?

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Patching

Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but a canopy can also need cleaning on its own, between full system cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. Common call-outs are for an EHO comment about the canopy and drips from the canopy onto the range, on island canopies, wall canopies and grease gutters.

In a small place like Patching, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Patching

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Patching

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Patching out of term?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. With about 4 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Patching, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Patching?

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Patching. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Are the filters cleaned too?

The filters come out so the plenum behind them can be cleaned, and they’re cleaned before going back in. Any that are damaged are noted on the report.

Are you accredited?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

When do you clean the canopy?

We clean out of hours as a matter of course, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. The kitchen is handed back ready to cook.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Which sectors do you work in?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

What happens to the waste?

Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • What state the system is in
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The scale of the work

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

What to send for a quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

How it works

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Somewhere as small as Patching, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

Advice

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Looking after it afterwards

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Clean the baffle filters often
  • Empty the grease troughs before they fill

The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Every filter is refitted and checked, and the kitchen is ready to cook.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.

When something else is needed

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Where we work

  • Island canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Baffle filters

Why deal with it now?

When grease clogs the filters and plenum, the canopy can’t draw air as it should. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier, and the fan works harder for less. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before we start.

Canopy cleaning around Patching

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 3 pubs, bars and clubs within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Patching. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Fire safety in Patching falls to West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Environmental health officers from Arun council inspect food businesses in Patching. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Clapham and Patching CofE Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Zachary Merton Hospital (about 3.4 miles south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Church and community hall kitchens, near The Parish Church of St John the Divine or anywhere around Patching, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.
