Canopy cleaning in Shoreham-by-Sea, done properly
Every canopy we clean in Shoreham-by-Sea gets the same treatment: filters out, plenum scraped and degreased, then the canopy cleaned inside and out. You get photos of the canopy before and after. The work covers island canopies, wall canopies and grease gutters, and the jobs we see most are a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and canopy gutters full of old fat.
For a pub, café or restaurant in a town like Shoreham-by-Sea, losing a day’s trade to cleaning is not an option, so cleans are booked after closing, early in the morning or on a quiet day. By the next service, the kitchen is ready to cook in again.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

How the visit works
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a few hours for most canopies. Photos taken on a phone are normally enough for us to plan a job in Shoreham-by-Sea and give a fixed quote.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
Getting a quote
Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Part by part
Plenums and filter housings
Behind neglected filters, the plenum can be heavily coated. We remove thick grease by hand, then degrease.
School and staff canteen kitchens
Canteens and school kitchens tend to run to a timetable, which makes a canopy clean easy to schedule. Holidays and weekends work well.
When something else is needed
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so these are the things it won’t cover:
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Multi-site and managed buildings
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
Shoreham-by-Sea kitchens: local notes
Sea air reaches Shoreham-by-Sea, which sits within about 1 mile of the coast. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 53 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 30 sandwich bars and takeaways in and around Shoreham-by-Sea, up to about a mile and a half out. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. In Shoreham-by-Sea, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Adur council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
A hospital like Southlands Hospital, about 0.6 miles north-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Mary de Haura Church or elsewhere in Shoreham-by-Sea, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. For kitchens close to Shoreham-By-Sea station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

What your team can do, and what needs us
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
How we price canopy cleaning
Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- A single visit or a regular plan
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- The times the site is available
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.
Helping us quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Any previous report or certificate
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- The site address and the type of premises
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
Why it’s worth doing now in Shoreham-by-Sea
A canopy clean in Shoreham-by-Sea now stops the grease spreading further. It takes a few hours for most canopies, done while the kitchen is closed. Left alone, grease keeps moving into the plenum and duct. If an inspection, an insurer’s survey or a fire risk assessment is coming up in Shoreham-by-Sea, having the work done and recorded first helps.
The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Shoreham-by-Sea
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Shoreham-by-Sea?
Fire safety enforcement in Shoreham-by-Sea is handled by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Can school kitchens in Shoreham-by-Sea be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. The FSA’s register shows about 6 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Shoreham-by-Sea. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Not normally. We work when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends, so the site can carry on as normal.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
Why does grease run off the canopy edge?
A canopy only holds so much grease. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. The law sets the duty, and TR19® is the recognised benchmark for meeting it. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and without records, many insurers may refuse or reduce a claim.
