Canopy cleaning in Little Portugal

Every canopy we clean in Little Portugal gets the same treatment: we remove the filters, clean the plenum and housing, then degrease the canopy shell. Before and after photos go into your report. The work covers island canopies, grease gutters and canopy light fittings, and common reasons people get in touch are grease channels that no longer drain and heavy deposits behind the grease filters.

London kitchens are often tucked into basements or the back of a building, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. For a kitchen in Little Portugal, that usually means a longer system to clean and more access panels to plan around.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Island canopies

Everything about an island canopy is on show so a clean, even finish matters. It’s degreased and photographed for your report.

Grease troughs and gutters

Many canopies have troughs or gutters around the edge to catch running grease. They’re emptied and cleaned during the job, so they can do their job again.

What happens if it’s left?

In Little Portugal, as elsewhere, a greasy canopy is one of the first things an inspector sees. Keeping it clean shows the rest of the kitchen is being looked after, and it’s far easier to keep clean than to rescue. It’s better booked as a planned job in Little Portugal than handled as an emergency.

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Keeping the system healthy

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
  • Give the canopy a wipe after service
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Never run the range with a filter out

The report gives a recommended next clean date. That date is based on your cooking hours and what we found, in line with BESA guidance.

Run the extract for as long as anything is cooking. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. On site, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. Before any visit in Little Portugal, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Little Portugal

Can parking be tricky for a job in Little Portugal?

Tell us where a van can stop near your site in Little Portugal, and about any building rules on loading. If the building has a loading slot system, we will book into it.

Can you work in Little Portugal outside opening hours?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. It means the site in Little Portugal keeps running as normal. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

The law calls them the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and where several people have control, each can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.

Which accreditations do you hold?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

How long does canopy cleaning take?

One lightly soiled hood doesn’t take long, while long canopies, several hoods or heavy deposits take more time. You will know before work begins.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not usually. We need the work area to ourselves while we’re on site, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.

How we price canopy cleaning

The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • The size of the system
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • What state the system is in
  • Parking and loading at the site

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to have:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

Want a quote for canopy cleaning? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us about the site. We will talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Little Portugal?

Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. As the canopy cools, condensation forms and runs with the grease. Drips onto the cooking line are a common result.

What we are most often called out for:

  • Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • Grease channels that no longer drain
  • Greasy streaks across the canopy

Where a hall near St Stephen's Church, or anywhere in Little Portugal, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What your quote should include

  • What insurance they carry
  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
