Canopy cleaning in St Pancras

Has the canopy started to drip or look neglected? A photo of the canopy and filters is a good start when you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and you’ll get a fixed price, typically within one working day. If you are dealing with drips from the canopy onto the range and condensation and grease dripping together, we can help.

London kitchens tend to trade late and open early, so work in St Pancras is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

When it’s something else

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:

  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
  • Bent or broken filters

If you are not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Baffle filters

Managing agents and facilities teams in St Pancras

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.

St Pancras: your questions answered

Is parking a problem for work in St Pancras?

A loading bay, a visitor permit or off-street space near the site in St Pancras makes the visit easier to plan. Much of our London work is done overnight, which helps.

Do you work overnight in St Pancras?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The work in St Pancras can fit around your hours. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

How much does canopy cleaning cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. For a quote, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

Is TR19 cleaning required by law?

No. The law sets the duty; TR19® is the benchmark used to show it’s met. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and many insurers can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of cleaning.

How far ahead should we book?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Why does grease run off the canopy edge?

A canopy only holds so much grease. Once the troughs and plenum are full, it runs down and drips, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we’ll quote them together.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Common problems we fix in St Pancras

The canopy takes the hottest, wettest air in the kitchen. Grease from the vapour lands on the canopy’s inner surfaces, its joints and its filters before what gets through reaches the plenum.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • A filter housing caked in grease
  • Poor capture at the hood
  • Condensation running down the canopy
  • Greasy streaks across the canopy

Commuter trade near London Kings Cross station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands.

What your quote should include

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report

Questions to ask before booking

Canopy cleaning around St Pancras

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 3,872 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 720 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of St Pancras. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Fire safety in St Pancras falls to London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Kitchens in St Pancras get their food hygiene inspections from Camden council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Lumen United Reformed Church or elsewhere in St Pancras, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Royal National Throat is the nearest hospital to St Pancras, about within half a mile north.

What the work involves, part by part

Wall canopies

A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. The joint between canopy and wall is a common grease trap, so we clean along it as well as the inner skin.

School and staff canteen kitchens

Lighter cooking still leaves grease on the canopy. The whole system still needs cleaning at least every 12 months under BESA guidance, and the canopy is part of it.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a few hours for most canopies. Before any visit in St Pancras, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

Preparing for the visit

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

What affects the quote in St Pancras

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • The size of the system
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • The number of sites or systems

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered and we’ll price it together.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • The postcode and the type of business

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
