Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Marylebone
Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. What isn’t seen, behind the filters, tends to be worse. We clean both, so the canopy is clean where it shows and where it doesn’t. The work covers grease gutters, wall canopies and canopy light fittings, and the jobs we see most are an EHO comment about the canopy and grease channels that no longer drain.
In a London area like Marylebone, a kitchen extract often passes through shared space on its way out: a riser, a service void, the floors above. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What a clean will not put right
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:
- A light fitting that doesn’t work
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before you book.

The process
Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. Security desks and permits-to-work are routine in London, so let us know what your building in Marylebone needs from us.
- The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
How to prepare
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
Getting a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Marylebone
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Marylebone?
Fire safety enforcement in Marylebone is handled by London Fire Brigade. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Can a school canteen extract in Marylebone be done out of term time?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. With about 80 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Marylebone, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just call 0345 646 2711, or email photos with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.
Do you cover Marylebone?
Yes. We cover Marylebone and the rest of Greater London, as part of our work across South East England and London. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
What should I send you?
Some photos and a quick description of the system plus the address and your hours. We will ask for anything else we need.
Do you provide photos of the cleaned canopy?
Before and after photos go into a report that lists what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach. A full TR19 clean adds a certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
What is TR19?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?
In the words of the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and in shared buildings more than one person can have duties. If you are not sure, check your lease and fire risk assessment.
How much does canopy cleaning cost in Marylebone?
We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before work begins.
What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- The scale of the work
- How easy every part is to reach
The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.
What we need to know
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Any previous report or certificate
- A few general shots of the system
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
Need a price for canopy cleaning? Please call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before anything is booked.
How the job changes from site to site
Grease troughs and gutters
Some troughs drain to a cup or drawer, we empty and clean that as well, and we will show staff where it is.
Pub and hotel kitchens
In a pub or hotel, the canopy is often in view of staff all day, so a dripping hood quickly becomes everyone’s problem. A thorough clean puts that right.
What your team can do, and what needs us
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
Canopy cleaning around Marylebone
There are about 3,845 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 393 sandwich bars and takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Marylebone, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Kitchens in Marylebone get their food hygiene inspections from Westminster council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. In London, kitchens are normally cleaned overnight, when the kitchen is closed and loading is easier.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Russian chapel on Welbeck Street or elsewhere in Marylebone, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Marylebone is Respiratory Clinical Trials, about within half a mile north.

When to call us in Marylebone
A canopy in Marylebone picks up grease at much the same rate as one anywhere else with the same cooking: it comes down to how long the kitchen cooks and what’s on the menu. Frying and grilling load a canopy far faster than steaming or boiling.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
- Filters that clog soon after cleaning
- Poor capture at the hood
For schools such as St Vincent's Catholic Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Looking after it afterwards
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Check filters are not leaving gaps
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
- Keep every filter in place while cooking
- Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Filters are back in place and seated properly ready for the next service.
The best thing a kitchen can do for its canopy is keep the filters clean. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.
