Canopy cleaning near Hunny Hill

Keeping the system healthy

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Give the canopy a wipe after service
  • Keep every filter in place while cooking
  • Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
  • Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools

A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.

Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.

Canopy cleaning in Hunny Hill

Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you are dealing with smoke hanging around the canopy during service and filters that never seem to stay clean, we can put it right, from wall canopies, baffle filters and island canopies onwards.

Kitchens around a place like Hunny Hill are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

How it works

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Around Hunny Hill, access is typically simpler than in a town centre, though gates and roof access are worth mentioning.

  1. We look at the canopy first, from photos or on a visit.
  2. The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
  5. We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.

Preparing for the visit

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What your team can do, and what needs us

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Honest limits

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What the work covers

  • Canopy light fittings
  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies

What affects the quote in Hunny Hill

You’ll get a fixed price before we start. It takes into account:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The size of the system
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

If you need canopy cleaning in Hunny Hill, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos. Let us know the site type and the opening hours, plus photos or the previous report if they’re to hand. A fixed quote usually follows within one working day.

Why act early in Hunny Hill

A greasy canopy is fuel directly above the flame. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. Around Hunny Hill, a kitchen or building out of action is missed straight away.

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Hunny Hill kitchens: local notes

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 20 pubs, bars and clubs and about 6 hotels and B&Bs within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Hunny Hill. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. In Hunny Hill, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Isle of Wight council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service covers Hunny Hill. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Hunnyhill Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like St Mary's Hospital about within half a mile north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Carisbrooke Castle, about 1.3 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses near Hunny Hill; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.

Hunny Hill is about 1 mile north of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Wherever you are in the PO30 postcode area, we can take on canopy cleaning. Hunny Hill is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight where we work for canopy cleaning. For sites nearby, see our Portsmouth page (12 miles or so).

Postcode districts we cover here for canopy cleaning: PO30, PO31 and PO41. If you need canopy cleaning at premises on Foxes Road, Chain Lane and Wilver Road or a nearby road, our technicians can take on the work. With the A3020 and A3054 close by, Hunny Hill is simple for us to get to at any hour. Neighbouring places we cover for canopy cleaning include Parkhurst (1 mile north), Forest Side (1 mile west), Noke Common (1 mile north), Northwood (3 miles north) and Porchfield (3 miles west). Further out, we also cover Ryde (6 miles east), Cowes (4 miles north), Sandown (7 miles south-east), Shanklin (7 miles south-east), Ventnor (9 miles south-east) and East Cowes (3 miles north). Being one of the Isle of Wight’s larger places, Hunny Hill has commercial sites of every size, and we cover all of them for canopy cleaning. If your site is somewhere remote, the visit takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.

Local landmarks in Hunny Hill

Green spaces nearby include Mill Hill and Briddlesford Nature Reserve.

Part by part

Pub and hotel kitchens

Few pubs and hotels can shut the kitchen for a day. We clean the canopy overnight or between services so the kitchen keeps trading.

Island canopies

With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.
