Canopy cleaning in East Cowes
A kitchen team can wipe the outside of a canopy, but the seams, gutters and inner skin need more. We scrape the heavy deposits, then degrease the surfaces with methods that suit the build-up, using hot water or steam where it helps. We’re often asked to deal with grease filters blocking between washes and grease dripping from the canopy edge, on canopy light fittings, baffle filters and wall canopies.
Kitchens around a place like East Cowes are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
The process
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Everything the job in East Cowes needs is worked out beforehand, from the survey.
- We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
Preparing for the visit
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Get a fixed quote
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few photos and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
Advice
Between visits
Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Report new drips or smells from the canopy
- Keep the fan on through service
- Check all filters are fitted before service
- Keep grease cups and drawers emptied
A before and after photo report follows the clean. The report lists what was cleaned and any part we couldn’t get to, so the record is honest and complete.
Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Wash or exchange them regularly, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.
What happens if it’s left?
A blocked plenum and clogged filters cut the airflow at the canopy. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier, and the fan works harder for less. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. Systems on quieter sites still build up dirt and wear, just more slowly.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.

How we price canopy cleaning
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- How many systems or sites are involved
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- A single visit or a regular plan
- The size of the system
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.
What we need to know
Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You will normally have a quote within one working day.
Kitchen extracts in East Cowes
East Cowes lies within about 1 mile of the sea. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. There are about 49 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 9 takeaways in East Cowes and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. The fire and rescue service for East Cowes is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around East Cowes (Osborne House is about 0.6 miles east), fitting access panels needs care. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Isle of Wight Studio School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Questions from East Cowes
Does being near the coast affect canopy cleaning in East Cowes?
It can. East Cowes is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. Corroded fixings and housings are noted on the report so they can be dealt with.
Do you work in villages like East Cowes?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, East Cowes included. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
How long is a canopy clean?
A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. You will know before we start.
What types of premises do you cover?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
Why does grease run off the canopy edge?
Full gutters and a heavily coated plenum are the common causes. With nowhere to collect, the grease overflows, and condensation can carry it too. A canopy clean sorts it out.
How much notice should we give?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
Can I just have the canopy cleaned instead of the whole system?
A canopy-only clean is possible, but it is not a full TR19 clean. For TR19, the whole system needs cleaning, at intervals set by BESA guidance.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.
What we are called out for in East Cowes
A canopy in East Cowes picks up grease at much the same rate as one anywhere else with the same cooking: the hours and the type of cooking decide how fast. Frying and grilling load a canopy far faster than steaming or boiling.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
- Drips from the canopy onto the range
- An EHO comment about the canopy
- A filter housing caked in grease
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St James's Church or elsewhere in East Cowes, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
