- Condensation running down the canopy
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
- Drips from the canopy onto the range
Part by part
Pub and hotel kitchens
Staff in pub and hotel kitchens work under the canopy all day, so a dripping hood quickly becomes everyone’s problem. A thorough clean puts that right.
Wall canopies
The back of a wall canopy is hard to reach and easy to miss. We remove the filters to reach it and degrease it properly.
About our canopy cleaning in Heron Quays
Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. What isn’t seen, behind the filters, tends to be worse. We clean both, so the canopy is clean where it shows and where it doesn’t. We’re often asked to deal with a plenum thick with grease behind the filters and a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away, across baffle filters, island canopies and plenum chambers.
London kitchens are often tucked into basements or the back of a building, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. In Heron Quays, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Heron Quays kitchens: local notes
The Food Standards Agency lists about 53 pubs and bars and about 12 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses as registered food businesses in and around Heron Quays, up to about a mile and a half out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Night work suits London kitchens, and roads and loading bays tend to be quieter too. London Fire Brigade covers Heron Quays. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
School kitchens, at schools like Seven Mills Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A kitchen near Canary Wharf station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Peter's Church or elsewhere in Heron Quays, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

How we price canopy cleaning
The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- Parking and loading at the site
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- How many systems or sites are involved
The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.
What we need to know
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- The postcode and the type of business
- A few general shots of the system
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we start.
What your team can do, and what needs us
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.
Aftercare tips
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:
- Never run the range with a filter out
- Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.
Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
Why it’s worth doing now in Heron Quays
Fresh grease comes off far more easily than old. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, which makes a later clean slower and harder. London buildings are shared, so a fire or failure in one system can reach the neighbours above and beside you.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

How the visit works
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. Before any visit in Heron Quays, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
How to prepare
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
Ask for a quote
Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Advice
For landlords and multi-site operators
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Questions from Heron Quays
Can you come to Heron Quays after we close?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Heron Quays can fit around your hours. When you ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.
How do you handle parking and loading in Heron Quays?
Tell us where a van can stop near your site in Heron Quays, and about any building rules on loading. Much of our London work is done overnight, which helps.
How much does canopy cleaning cost?
Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Call for a fixed quote, typically ready within one working day.
What happens to the filters during the clean?
Filters are removed so we can clean the plenum and housing, then cleaned and refitted. We also offer a filter exchange service for between cleans.
Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?
Wall and island canopies, long cooking-line hoods and small single hoods. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.
Why is my canopy dripping grease?
Full gutters and a heavily coated plenum are the common causes. Grease has nowhere else to go, so it runs down and drips, and condensation can carry it too. Cleaning the canopy and plenum clears it.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
What do you do with what you remove?
We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.
