Hackney TR19 inspection
Specialist TR19 inspection for Hackney: diagnosis first, then a fixed quote, the work and a report with pictures. Call for a fixed quote.
- Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
- Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits
- Uncertainty over how often to clean
Why act early in Hackney
Without readings, you are guessing when to clean. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning under TR19® Grease, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. London sites work long hours, and the longer a job is left, the bigger it gets.
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in Hackney
If you’ve taken over a kitchen in Hackney and don’t know when the extract was last cleaned, an inspection is the place to start. You get readings, photos and a clear view of what’s needed, before any cleaning is booked. If you have heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts and post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean, we can put it right, from pre-clean surveys, deposit thickness tests and post-clean checks onwards.
In a London area like Hackney, a kitchen extract often passes through shared space on its way out: a riser, a service void, the floors above. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.
Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

When something else is needed
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
- Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
- The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we do, step by step
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. Loading bays, visitor permits and roof access are the first things we ask about for a site in Hackney.
- The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
- The system is checked from canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
- Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
- You get a report with readings, pictures and recommendations.
Getting ready for the visit
- Move anything stored near the system
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote does not take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Do you need TR19 inspection in Hackney?
Not every section of a kitchen extract is easy to get to, so those sections can be skipped time and again. A survey finds the sections that can’t be reached, so the gaps can be closed.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Parts of the system left out of past cleans
- Checking the result of a recent clean
- Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
- Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Homerton University Hospital (about less than half a mile north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
Comparing quotes
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- If they look at the system before pricing
Hackney questions
Can a school canteen extract in Hackney be done out of term time?
Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 36 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Hackney. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Hackney?
Hackney is in the area of London Fire Brigade. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
What do the grease readings need to be?
The TR19® Grease figures are a mean of 200 microns or less between cleans, and immediate spot cleaning wherever a reading hits 500 microns. Our report sets your readings against both.
How often should grease be tested?
We suggest a next test date in every report, based on the readings and how the kitchen is used. A risk assessment based on measured grease should set the interval.
Do you work out of hours?
Yes. Evenings, nights and weekends are normal working hours for us, so the site does not lose a service.
What do you do to protect the area?
We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Is Hackney in your area?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes Hackney.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
What your team can do, and what needs us
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.
Multi-site and managed buildings
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in Hackney and across Greater London. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.

What affects the quote in Hackney
The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:
- The times the site is available
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Any permits to work or inductions
- Whether several sites go on one quote
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.
What to send for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Any previous report or certificate
- Problems your staff have spotted
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
Kitchen extracts in Hackney
Food Standards Agency records include about 106 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 13 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in and around Hackney, up to about a mile and a half out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Kitchens in Hackney get their food hygiene inspections from Hackney council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Hackney sits within the area of London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
If you run a café or takeaway near Homerton station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. For schools such as Berger Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
