Book grease trap cleaning in Hackney

Grease trap cleaning in Hackney

In Hackney, we time grease trap visits so the sinks are not needed. The trap is emptied, cleaned and checked, and the waste is taken away. It can be booked on its own or alongside other kitchen work. The work covers school and care home kitchens, pot wash sinks and restaurants and takeaways, and the jobs we see most are an interceptor full of grease and solids and sinks that drain slowly.

Every food business in London is inspected by its local council’s environmental health officers, and the cleanliness of the whole kitchen is part of what they look at. Kitchens in Hackney often book a deep clean before or after an inspection.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What we do, step by step

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes less than an hour for many under-sink units, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Night and weekend working is normal for us in London, and a site in Hackney is no exception.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. The sinks feeding the trap are kept out of use while we work.
  3. We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
  4. Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
  5. The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Fixed quotes for grease trap cleaning in Hackney

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • The times the site is available
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The condition of the system

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow

For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We usually come back within one working day.

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • A grease trap that’s too small for the kitchen
  • Drains that are cracked or have collapsed
  • A leaking sink waste or trap connection

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Where we work

  • Inline grease traps
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Pot wash sinks

When to call us in Hackney

The more a kitchen cooks and washes up, the quicker the trap fills. Traps sized for lighter use can fill very quickly when trade picks up.

What we’re most often called out for:

  • A grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time
  • Gurgling drains in the kitchen
  • An inline trap or interceptor due for cleaning
  • A small trap that fills too quickly

If you look after a hall kitchen near Church of St Luke or anywhere in Hackney, a deep clean between busy seasons is easier than a scramble before a big event.

Before you book anyone

  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • If they look at the system before pricing

Our hiring checklist

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Your questions about grease trap cleaning in Hackney

Do you clean school kitchens in Hackney in the summer holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Around Hackney, the Food Standards Agency lists about 36 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Send us your term dates when you call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we’ll fit the work in.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Hackney?

The local authority for Hackney is Hackney council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. An officer may look behind equipment and at drains, so it pays to have the deep clean booked before those areas build up.

Does the report say when we need you again?

Yes. We put a recommended next date on the report. BESA’s minimum intervals for kitchen extracts range from 3-monthly for heavy use to 12-monthly for light use, while fire dampers are tested at least annually.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

Do you cover Hackney?

Yes. Hackney is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover.

What’s TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.

Do I get a report after the visit?

Yes, on every job. It’s a dated, written report with pictures, and TR19® Grease cleans come with a certificate through the BESCA VHE portal. File it with your fire safety records.

How regularly does a grease trap need emptying?

That depends on the trap and the kitchen. Small under-sink units fill faster than larger traps, and busy kitchens fill them faster still. We’ll recommend a schedule once we’ve seen it.

Leave it or put it right?

Pests are drawn to grease and food waste. A clean trap is less of an attraction, alongside good kitchen hygiene. In Hackney, a planned overnight visit is much easier than closing unexpectedly.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Part by part

School, care home and staff kitchens

School kitchens can be cleaned in the holidays or after lunch service.

Inline grease traps

Inline traps often take waste from several sinks or appliances. That means more grease, so regular cleaning matters.

Commercial kitchens in Hackney

Food Standards Agency records list about 679 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 179 takeaways and sandwich shops within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Hackney. Each of them sends fat, oil and grease towards the drain, which is why grease traps need regular emptying. Environmental health officers from Hackney council inspect food businesses in Hackney. They look at the cleanliness of the whole kitchen: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day. Most London kitchens cannot close in the day, so deep cleaning is normally done overnight.

If you serve passing trade near Homerton station, a grease trap on a regular schedule keeps the drains running through busy weeks. School kitchens, at schools like Berger Primary School for example, usually have their deep cleans and grease trap work done while the canteen is closed.
