What we are called out for in Fish Island
You can’t judge grease thickness by eye. Clean filters can hide a heavy layer behind them, so readings are the reliable guide.
Keep an eye out for these warning signs:
- Parts of the system left out of past cleans
- Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts
- Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
- Pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean
If you cook for passing trade around Hackney Wick station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.
What to look for in a quote
- What insurance they carry
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
About our TR19 inspection in Fish Island
Insurance policies often require evidence of TR19® cleaning and inspection. Without it, a claim can be refused or reduced. Our TR19 audits give sites in Fish Island and across Greater London a clear record of the system’s condition. The work covers access surveys, wet film thickness tests and deposit thickness tests, and the jobs we see most are sites with gaps in their extract records and kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings.
Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. In Fish Island, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- The number of sites or systems
- The condition of the system
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The scale of the work
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.
Helping us quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, a few photos and any previous report or certificate. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
Multi-site and managed buildings
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.
Why deal with it now?
Without readings, you’re guessing when to clean. If grease reaches 500 microns anywhere, TR19® Grease calls for immediate spot cleaning, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. London sites work long hours, and the longer a job is left, the bigger it gets.
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What we do, step by step
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Managed blocks in London often need contractors booked in ahead, and we’re happy to deal with the agent directly for a site in Fish Island.
- We go through any past certificates and reports.
- We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
- Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
- Grease readings are taken and pictures recorded.
- You get a report and a fixed quote for the clean.
Getting ready for the visit
- Move anything stored near the system
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
Get a fixed quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Fish Island
Can the work in Fish Island be done at night or at weekends?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Fish Island does not have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Fish Island?
It’s London Fire Brigade, which covers Fish Island. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
What do the grease readings need to be?
Under TR19® Grease, the mean thickness should not exceed 200 microns between cleans. 500 microns or more at any point calls for immediate spot cleaning.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for anything that can’t wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.
Do we have to follow TR19 by law?
No. TR19® is a specification, not a statute. In practice, an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of TR19 cleaning, so it matters in practice.
What happens on a pre-clean survey?
It’s a look at the whole extract before it’s cleaned, with readings and pictures. The survey can be done from pictures and details or on site, as suits the job.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. Every job is surveyed first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.
Do you check other contractors’ cleans?
A post-clean check records grease readings and photos after the work, for our cleans and other firms’ alike.
Grease, kitchens and Fish Island
The FSA’s data shows about 68 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 13 hotels and guest houses registered within about 1.5 miles of central Fish Island. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. London jobs normally start after the last service, with loading and roof access agreed with the building first. London Fire Brigade covers Fish Island. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.
Where a hall near St Mary of Eton, or anywhere in Fish Island, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. For schools such as Mossbourne Riverside Academy, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Near you in Fish Island
Around Fish Island, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Mulberry UTC, Grove Hall Park and The Lea Tavern. Fish Island has its own railway station: Hackney Wick station. Other landmarks nearby include V&A East (less than half a mile east) and Tower of London (3.1 miles south-west). For a walk, there’s Hollow Pond and Tower Hill.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
When it’s something else
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- Mechanical faults in the extract
- Fire safety duties beyond the extract system
- The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
