TR19 inspection in Ealing

TR19 inspection in Ealing, done properly

A grease test measures how thick the grease is inside a kitchen extract system. Readings are taken at set points using the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or the Deposit Thickness Test (DTT). From the numbers, you can see whether cleaning is due. If you’re dealing with confirming a clean reached the whole system and systems that need surveying before cleaning, we can help, from post-clean checks, insurer audits and pre-clean surveys onwards.

In London, few kitchens can spare a day to close, so work in Ealing is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Parking, loading and access to the roof are agreed with the building before the night of the clean.

A written report with pictures follows every visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Between visits

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals
  • Tell us if menus or opening hours change
  • Keep canopy edges and gutters wiped down
  • Keep access panels clear and unpainted

Any access problems we found are listed with a suggested fix. Fitting them before the next clean means the whole system gets done.

Keep filters clean and in place. Gaps around filters let grease get past them.

Ealing kitchens: local notes

The Food Standards Agency lists about 78 pubs, bars and clubs and about 10 hotels and B&Bs as registered food businesses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Ealing. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Ealing is covered by London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. London jobs usually start after the last service, with loading and roof access agreed with the building first.

For kitchens close to Ealing Broadway station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. School kitchens, at schools like Ealing Independent College for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

For landlords and multi-site operators

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Greater London. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

Leave it or put it right?

After an incident, an insurer can ask to see proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection. Missing records can put a claim at risk. An up-to-date inspection report is a good place to start. In Ealing, a planned overnight visit is much easier than closing unexpectedly.

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. A name and number for whoever controls access to the building in Ealing saves time on the night.

  1. First we book a time that will not disrupt cooking.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. You get a report with readings, photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Getting a quote

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before work begins.

Advice

Common questions in Ealing

Can you work in Ealing outside opening hours?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The site is handed back ready to open. Just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Is parking a problem for work in Ealing?

A loading bay, a visitor permit or off-street space near the site in Ealing makes the visit easier to plan. Where restrictions apply in the day, an evening or overnight visit typically gets round them.

What if parts of the system can’t be reached?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Which accreditations do you hold?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We have been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.

How much does TR19 inspection cost?

Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Call for a fixed quote and we will typically reply within one working day.

How long does grease testing take?

As a guide, it takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. System size and access decide the rest.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that can’t wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.

What should I send you?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few pictures and any previous report.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

What the work involves, part by part

Extract fan and discharge

The extract fan and its housing collect grease too. We check and test them as part of the inspection.

Canopy and plenum

Behind the filters, the plenum catches plenty of grease. We take readings there and photograph it as part of every survey.

What we are called out for in Ealing

You cannot judge grease thickness by eye. A system can look clean at the filters and be heavily coated further in, so readings are the reliable guide.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Surveys needed before quoting a full clean
  • Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
  • Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits
  • Sections of duct that can’t be reached

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Saviour's Church or elsewhere in Ealing, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • What records you’ll receive afterwards
