TR19 inspection in Ascot, done properly

Not every kitchen fits neatly into a calendar. In a busy kitchen, grease can build faster than the minimum intervals allow for, which is why measurement matters. We give your risk assessment measured figures rather than guesses. Typical jobs include kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings and parts of the system left out of past cleans, on access surveys, deposit thickness tests and insurer audits.

Somewhere as small as Ascot, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

How it works

The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and pictures. The middle part takes longest, which takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Ascot before we set off.

  1. Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
  2. The same access points are opened up.
  3. We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
  4. Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
  5. The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.

Preparing for the visit

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Let us know about parking and loading

Advice

Multi-site and managed buildings

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

What happens if it’s left?

Surveying first means the clean goes to plan. Missing access panels, hidden duct runs and awkward fans are found before the cleaners arrive, and the quote reflects the real job. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Do you need TR19 inspection in Ascot?

TR19® is the benchmark that insurers, fire officers and EHOs refer to. TR19® itself is not law, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and grease in the extract is part of that risk.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Missing access panels found on survey
  • Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
  • Insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning
  • Surveys needed before quoting a full clean

If you cook for passing trade around Ascot station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

What to look for in a quote

  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor

Honest limits

We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning
  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
  • Design faults in the extract system

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before booking.

Common questions in Ascot

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Ascot?

In Ascot, it’s Windsor and Maidenhead council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Can the work in Ascot be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. It means the site in Ascot keeps running as normal. When you call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No. TR19® is BESA’s specification and the industry benchmark, not legislation. The law is the Fire Safety Order 2005, under which the responsible person must manage fire risk, and TR19® is what insurers and fire officers look to.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.

At what point does grease need cleaning?

The TR19® Grease figures are a mean of 200 microns or less between cleans, and immediate spot cleaning wherever a reading hits 500 microns. We show your readings against those figures.

What do you do to protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. For many sites, pictures and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

Where does the waste go?

Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

Part by part

Schools, hospitals and care homes

We fit testing around service times and school holidays so meals are not affected.

Canopy and plenum

The canopy itself is checked inside and out, and note where grease has gathered.

Keeping the system healthy

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Clean grease off the canopy between professional cleans
  • Flag changes in how much frying the kitchen does
  • Don’t box in or cover duct access panels
  • File every inspection report with your certificates

For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, with readings, photos and any areas not accessible.

Keep certificates, reports and readings in one place so you can produce them quickly.

TR19 inspection around Ascot

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 8 bars, pubs and nightclubs across Ascot and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. The fire and rescue service for Ascot is Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Ascot are the job of Windsor and Maidenhead council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

School kitchens, at schools like South Ascot Village Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Where a hall near Church of All Souls, or anywhere in Ascot, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.
