Windsor TR19 inspection
Specialist TR19 inspection for Windsor: diagnosis first, then a fixed quote, the work and a report with photos. Ask us for a fixed quote.
- Parts of the system left out of past cleans
- Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts
- Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
What we do, step by step
We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. We arrive in Windsor once you’ve closed and leave the site ready for the morning.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- The same access points are opened up.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Clear the space around the work
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
Getting a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

How we handle TR19 inspection in Windsor
BESA sets minimum cleaning intervals by daily use: heavy use (12 to 16 hours a day) every 3 months, moderate use (6 to 12 hours) every 6 months and light use (2 to 6 hours) every 12 months. Those are minimums, and grease readings help set the real interval. If you have parts of the system left out of past cleans and extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean, we can put it right.
For a pub, café or restaurant in a town like Windsor, losing a day’s trade to cleaning isn’t an option, so cleans are booked after closing, early in the morning or on a quiet day. By the next service, the kitchen is ready to cook in again.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Windsor kitchens: local notes
The Food Standards Agency lists about 33 pubs, bars and clubs and about 12 hotels and guest houses as registered food businesses across Windsor and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Windsor. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Kitchens in Windsor get their food hygiene inspections from Windsor and Maidenhead council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
St Leonard's Hill, about 1 mile south-west, is one of the historic houses near Windsor; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions. A hospital like King Edward VII Hospital, about 0.8 miles east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
Windsor is about 3 miles south of Slough, in Windsor and Maidenhead. Why it’s worth doing now in Windsor
A pre-clean survey avoids surprises on the night. Access problems are spotted in advance rather than on the night, and the quote reflects the real job. Booking now keeps it a routine visit to Windsor rather than an urgent one.
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.
Why us?

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we will come back with a fixed quote.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Aftercare tips
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:
- Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
- Keep to the recommended interval
- Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
The audit report is set out to pass straight to your insurer or broker, with readings, pictures and any areas not accessible.
Keep all TR19 records together so you can produce them quickly.
FAQs for Windsor
Who is the fire and rescue service for Windsor?
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Windsor. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Do you work overnight in Windsor?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Windsor needn’t be disturbed. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
What accreditations do you have?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
What is TR19?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification and the industry benchmark, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires the responsible person to reduce fire risk, and insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark.
What about areas you can’t get to?
Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.
How long does grease testing take?
Typically, the inspection takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. The size of the system and the access make the difference.
Do you work in Windsor?
Yes. Windsor is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover.

When it’s something else
TR19 inspection can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It does not solve:
- The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment
- Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
- Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before you book.
What the work covers
- Pre-clean surveys
- Wet film thickness tests
- Access surveys
- Insurer audits
- Post-clean checks
- Deposit thickness tests
How we price TR19 inspection
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- The condition we find in the survey
- Travel, parking and unloading
- The number of sites or systems
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
What we need to know
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- A few general shots of the system
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few pictures and any previous report or certificate. Then phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
What we’re called out for in Windsor
Records can go missing when a business changes hands or contractors. With no history, the current state of the extract is a guess.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean
- Sites with gaps in their extract records
- Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
- Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as St Edward's Catholic First School or anywhere near Windsor, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
What your quote should include
- Whether a survey comes first
- Whether a written report and photos are included
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- Proof of insurance
