TR19 inspection in Angell Town

How we handle TR19 inspection in Angell Town

Many insurers ask for proof that kitchen extract systems are cleaned and inspected to TR19®. Without it, a claim can be refused or reduced. A TR19 audit sets out the system’s condition, with readings and photos, for sites in Angell Town and the rest of Greater London. If you have ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits and uncertainty over how often to clean, we can help.

In London, few kitchens can spare a day to close, so extract cleaning in Angell Town is normally done overnight, after the last service. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Angell Town kitchens: local notes

Food Standards Agency records list about 663 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 313 sandwich bars and takeaways across Angell Town and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Kitchens like these cook for very different hours, and grease testing shows which extracts need cleaning soonest. Angell Town is covered by London Fire Brigade. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Food hygiene inspections in Angell Town are the job of Lambeth council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St John the Evangelist, or anywhere in Angell Town, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you run a café or takeaway near Loughborough Junction station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. School kitchens, at schools like St John's Angell Town Church of England Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

What staff can safely do

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Part by part

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

Inspections are done when the kitchen is closed or quiet so trading isn’t affected.

Vertical risers

In buildings with several floors, the riser may pass through other tenants’ space, so access is planned in advance.

Angell Town: your questions answered

How do you handle parking and loading in Angell Town?

A loading bay, a visitor permit or off-street space near the site in Angell Town makes the visit easier to plan. Where restrictions apply in the day, an evening or overnight visit typically gets round them.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Angell Town?

It’s London Fire Brigade, which covers Angell Town. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

What grease levels does TR19 allow?

Under TR19® Grease, the mean thickness should not exceed 200 microns between cleans. 500 microns or more at any point calls for immediate spot cleaning.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you’ll get one fixed quote.

Do you check other contractors’ cleans?

A post-clean check records grease readings and pictures after the work, for our cleans and other firms’ alike.

What is grease thickness testing?

Readings are taken using the Wet Film Thickness Test or the Deposit Thickness Test, then compare them with the TR19® Grease figures.

What does a pre-clean survey involve?

We check the layout, the grease levels and the access, before anyone starts cleaning. Any access problems are flagged so they can be sorted first.

What happens if it’s left?

Sites in Angell Town that have never measured grease can’t tell whether their cleaning interval suits the kitchen. Measured readings let a competent person set the interval. Every month a London system goes without attention adds to what has to be done later.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Keeping the system healthy

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Keep to the recommended interval
  • Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Don’t box in or cover duct access panels
  • Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request

For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, including readings, pictures and any inaccessible sections.

Regular grease readings keep the cleaning interval honest. It shows if build-up is speeding up.

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
  • Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
  • Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What the work covers

  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Post-clean checks
  • Insurer audits
  • Access surveys

How we price TR19 inspection

Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The scale of the work

Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

To get a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We normally come back within one working day.

How the visit works

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. Expect the work in Angell Town to happen after your last customer leaves, not during trading.

  1. We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
  2. Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
  3. We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
  4. We photograph the test points and record any sections we cannot reach.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, photos and next steps.

Before we arrive

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
