How kitchen extract cleaning works in SE11
Across SE11, we clean kitchen extract systems to BESA TR19® Grease. We survey first and take grease readings, then clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, fan and discharge. At the finish there’s a TR19 certificate and a before and after photo report. The work covers discharge points, canopies and hoods and plenums and filters, and people most often call us about a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction and a system with no record of a TR19 clean.
The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one, and we clear up before we go.
- We survey the system, from your photos or on site, canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
- The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- Readings are repeated, pictures taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.
How we quote
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
Why choose Duct Doctor
- Full insurance on every job
- One number for every site across the South East and London
- A fixed price before any work starts
- A written report with pictures after every visit
Ask for a quote
Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
Near you in Vauxhall
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Vauxhall Primary School, Lilian Baylis Technology School and Old Paradise Gardens. Nearby too are St Peter's Church (less than half a mile south), Lambeth Palace Library (0.5 miles north), Lambeth School of Art (under half a mile south) and The Jolly Gardeners pub (less than half a mile north-east). Vauxhall has its own railway station: Vauxhall station. Well-known places in the area include Baynard's Castle (1.7 miles north-east) and Gabriel's Wharf (1.3 miles north). For a walk, there’s Ludgate Hill and St. James's Park Lake.
Kitchen extracts across SE11
In SE11, a busy kitchen in a place such as Kennington, Elephant and Castle and Southwark and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. Grease readings and BESA’s minimum intervals set the schedule for each.
London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. Wherever the site is in SE11, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.
Vauxhall: If you run a café or takeaway near Vauxhall station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Peter's Church or elsewhere in Vauxhall, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
Why act early?
If your kitchen in SE11 is past its cleaning date, it’s worth booking now. It takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one, and we fit around your opening hours. Waiting only adds grease and risk.

What the work involves, part by part
Extract fan and discharge
At the end of the system is the discharge, and grease can collect there too. We clean it where it can be safely reached, and any limits are recorded.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
In a care home or hospital, the kitchen may cook every day of the year. Cleans are planned between meals or overnight with as little disruption as possible.
What staff can safely do
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix
In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:
- A canopy that is too small or a system that was badly designed
- Ductwork that is corroded, split or leaking (that’s for a ductwork contractor)
- A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
Multi-site and managed buildings
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
SE11: your questions answered
Do insurers need proof of extract cleaning?
Grease-filled ducts can carry fire well beyond the kitchen. Many insurers require TR19 cleaning, and may refuse or reduce a claim without proof, so keep every certificate.
Can you quote from pictures?
In many cases, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
What information do you need?
A short description and a few pictures, with the address and opening hours. We will ask for anything else we need.
When do you clean the extract?
Cleans are timed to avoid service. Most kitchens book us overnight or at weekends and the kitchen is ready to cook when we leave.
Is SE11 in your area?
Yes. Our technicians work in SE11, within the South East and London area we cover.
What’s TR19?
A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.
