Greater London · TR19 inspections and grease testing
Vauxhall TR19 inspection
Professional TR19 inspection in and around Vauxhall, booked around your opening hours and finished with a written report and photos.
- Kitchens taken over with no cleaning records
- An insurer’s request for a TR19 audit
- Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits
When something else is needed
In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:
- Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
- The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think.
What the work covers
- Access surveys
- Pre-clean surveys
- Post-clean checks
- Insurer audits
- Deposit thickness tests
- Wet film thickness tests
TR19 inspection in Vauxhall
BESA’s minimum cleaning frequencies depend on how long the kitchen cooks each day: every 3 months for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day, every 6 months for moderate use of 6 to 12 hours, and every 12 months for light use of 2 to 6 hours. Grease testing shows whether your kitchen needs cleaning more often than that. We’re often asked to deal with kitchens whose menu or hours have changed and confirming a clean reached the whole system, across access surveys, insurer audits and post-clean checks.
London kitchens are often tucked into basements or the back of a building, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. For a kitchen in Vauxhall, that normally means a longer system to clean and more access panels to plan around.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

What happens on the day
The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, which takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Before any visit in Vauxhall, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.
- First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
- We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
- Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
- Grease readings are taken and photos recorded.
- We report back with readings and a fixed quote.
How to prepare
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Clear the space around the work
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
Get a fixed quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Advice
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- How easy every part is to reach
- A single visit or a regular plan
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- The number of sites or systems
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.
What we need to know
When you call or email, it’s useful to have:
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we start.
TR19 inspection in Vauxhall: the local picture
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 1,821 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 426 sandwich bars and takeaways in Vauxhall and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Kitchens like these cook for very different hours, and grease testing shows which extracts need cleaning soonest. Overnight is the normal time to clean a London kitchen extract, so trading isn’t affected. Fire safety in Vauxhall falls to London Fire Brigade. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Evelina London Children's Hospital about 0.5 miles north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Peter's Church, or anywhere in Vauxhall, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you cook for passing trade around Vauxhall station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

Leave it or put it right?
If there’s a fire or a claim, your insurer may ask for TR19 records. Without them, a claim can be reduced or refused. Getting an inspection done now starts that paper trail. A booked night’s work in Vauxhall costs you no trading time; an unplanned closure does.
Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Vauxhall questions
Who is the fire and rescue service for Vauxhall?
That’s London Fire Brigade. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Which council inspects kitchens in Vauxhall?
In Vauxhall, it’s Lambeth council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
How often should grease be tested?
Enough to be sure grease stays within the TR19® Grease figures between cleans. If readings rise, the interval should shorten.
Do you cover Vauxhall?
Yes. Our technicians work in Vauxhall, within the South East and London area we cover.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.
Do you check other contractors’ cleans?
After a clean, we take new readings and pictures to show how the system was left. It can follow our own cleans or another contractor’s.
How much notice do you need?
Book as early as you can for planned work, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

Looking after it afterwards
Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
- Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
- Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
- File every inspection report with your certificates
The audit report is set out to pass straight to your insurer or broker, with readings, pictures and any areas not accessible.
Keep all TR19 records together so you can produce them quickly.
For landlords and multi-site operators
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.
