Kitchen deep cleaning in Canterbury

What we are called out for in Canterbury

Warm, greasy air rises and settles on the ceiling. It darkens surfaces and can drip onto the area below.

The symptoms we’re asked about most include:

  • A new kitchen tenant inheriting a dirty kitchen
  • Preparation for an EHO inspection
  • A floor that daily mopping no longer gets clean
  • A kitchen clean booked with the extract clean

Half-term is a good time for school kitchens, at schools like St Peter's Methodist Primary School for instance, to have the grease trap emptied and the kitchen deep cleaned.

About our kitchen deep cleaning in Canterbury

For kitchens in Canterbury, we plan deep cleans around service. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends so there’s no lost trade. School kitchens are often done in the holidays. If you are dealing with build-up behind fryers and ovens and cooking equipment caked in carbon, we can put it right, from ranges and ovens, fryers and grills and walls and ceilings onwards.

Food businesses in Canterbury are inspected by council environmental health officers, and they look at the cleanliness of the whole kitchen. Records of deep cleans help show the kitchen is kept in order.

We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Kent. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.

When something else is needed

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Grease inside the canopy, plenum and ductwork, which needs a TR19 clean
  • Pests already in the kitchen
  • Equipment that isn’t working properly

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will say what we think.

What the work covers

  • Floors and floor drains
  • Walls and ceilings
  • Behind and under equipment
  • Ranges and ovens
  • Fryers and grills
  • Stainless steel surfaces

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes a full shift for most kitchens, longer for a large one. We will ask where we can park in Canterbury and how to get equipment to the system, as those shape the visit.

  1. We agree the scope of the clean and the time to attend.
  2. Equipment is switched off and allowed to cool.
  3. We work down from the ceiling, cleaning walls and the canopy exterior.
  4. Equipment is cleaned, along with the areas behind and under it.
  5. We finish the floors and walk round with you.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

Ask for a quote

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

What the work involves, part by part

School and care home kitchens

School holidays are a good time for a deep clean, ready for the new term.

Canopy exteriors

The inside of the canopy, the plenum and the ducts need a TR19 clean. Many kitchens book both together.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Questions from Canterbury

Can you work in school kitchens in Canterbury during the holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Around Canterbury, the Food Standards Agency lists about 34 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Which council inspects kitchens in Canterbury?

In Canterbury, it’s Canterbury City council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Photos from a deep clean are a simple record of what was done and when.

What do you clean in a commercial kitchen deep clean?

It covers the full kitchen, from ceiling to floor. The exact list is agreed when we quote and it’s all in the fixed quote.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.

What’s TR19?

A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

What paperwork should we keep on file?

Everything that shows the system is looked after: reports, certificates, photos and your own cleaning or check logs. A single log for each site works best.

Which sectors do you work in?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. We fit the work around how the site operates.

What kitchen deep cleaning looks like in Canterbury

There are about 196 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 42 sandwich bars and takeaways in Canterbury and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Every one of them has corners the daily clean does not reach. Environmental health officers from Canterbury City council inspect food businesses in Canterbury. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. A cleaning log that includes deep cleans and grease trap visits shows the work is planned.

If you run a care home or healthcare kitchen near Canterbury (the nearest hospital is Eastbridge Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr, about less than half a mile west), a grease trap on a set schedule avoids a blocked drain mid-service. Hall kitchens near Church of St Margaret or elsewhere in Canterbury may have older sinks and drains, so a grease trap check is worth adding to a deep clean.

Fixed quotes for kitchen deep cleaning in Canterbury

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • The times the site is available
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The number of sites or systems

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

What to send for a quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
