Grease trap cleaning for sites in Soho

Grease trap cleaning in Soho

Kitchens in Soho use us for grease trap cleaning, whether it’s an under-sink unit or a larger inline trap. We come when the sinks aren’t needed so washing up isn’t interrupted. Common call-outs are for a larger grease trap that needs emptying and a full, neglected grease trap, across kitchen waste pipes, pot wash sinks and under-sink grease traps.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are compact and run long hours, so grease collects behind equipment, on ceilings and in drains and grease traps. In Soho, deep cleans and grease trap work are typically done overnight.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

How we price grease trap cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The number of sites or systems
  • The times the site is available

A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

Asking for a quote

Many jobs can be priced from photos and some basics. Send what you can of the following:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Grease trap cleaning in Soho: local notes

Food Standards Agency data counts about 30 food manufacturers and packers within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Soho. A production site’s wash-down water can carry plenty of fat, which a trap or interceptor has to catch. Food hygiene inspections in Soho are the job of Westminster council’s environmental health team. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. Keeping a record of deep cleans and grease trap visits helps at inspection time. Night work is normal for London kitchens, and the kitchen is handed back ready for the morning.

Hall kitchens near St Anne's Church or elsewhere in Soho may have older sinks and drains, so a grease trap check is worth adding to a deep clean. School kitchens, at schools like Soho Parish CofE Primary School for example, typically have their deep cleans and grease trap work done while the canteen is closed.

Common questions in Soho

Can you come to Soho after we close?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The work in Soho can fit around your hours. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Can school kitchens in Soho be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 78 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Soho. Just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Which records should we keep?

The reports and certificates from each visit, plus your own logs. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs may all ask to see them, so keep them together and easy to find.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for anything that can’t wait until a planned visit. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.

What do you do to protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

Do I get a report after the visit?

Yes, on every job. The report is dated and includes photos, plus a certificate via the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal for TR19® Grease cleans. File it with your fire safety records.

Which grease traps does the service cover?

We clean under-sink traps, inline traps and interceptors. Let us know what’s fitted and we’ll plan the visit.

How long will the sinks be out of use?

A typical clean takes less than an hour for many under-sink units, including testing. We plan the visit around your service.

How it works

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. The middle part takes longest, which takes anything from under an hour to a few hours, depending on the trap. Before any visit in Soho, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.

  1. We start by finding the trap and checking its inlet and outlet.
  2. Nothing drains into the trap while it’s open.
  3. We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
  4. Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
  5. Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

When to call us in Soho

Oil tipped down the drain instead of being collected fills a grease trap far faster than washing-up. Small amounts soon build up.

Most sites get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • A kitchen drain that smells
  • A routine grease trap service
  • An under-sink unit that needs regular emptying
  • An interceptor full of grease and solids

St James Workhouse, about within half a mile west, is the nearest hospital to Soho; healthcare kitchens can’t stop cooking, so deep cleans are worked around meal times.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What insurance they carry
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
  • If they look at the system before pricing

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

For landlords and multi-site operators

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

What the work involves, part by part

Baffles and outlets

We check the inlet, outlet and baffles at each clean so the trap works as it should.

Grease interceptors

Bigger kitchens may have a larger grease interceptor. They hold more grease and solids but they still need cleaning.

What staff can safely do

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
