Grease trap cleaning for sites in Ruislip

Grease trap cleaning in Ruislip

Think of the grease trap as a filter for the kitchen’s drains. When it’s looked after, you hardly know it’s there, but neglected, it causes blockages and smells. A regular clean keeps it healthy. The work covers pot wash sinks, inline grease traps and kitchen waste pipes, and the jobs we see most are an inline trap or interceptor due for cleaning and sinks that drain slowly.

Every food business in London is inspected by its local council’s environmental health officers, and walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of the picture. A deep clean ahead of an inspection, or after one, is a common reason kitchens in Ruislip get in touch.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

What staff can safely do

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.

When something else is needed

Not every problem is solved by grease trap cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • Grease set hard in the drain run
  • Leaking pipework or sink wastes, which need a plumber
  • A unit that can’t cope with the kitchen’s output

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • School and care home kitchens
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Inline grease traps
  • Under-sink grease traps

What we do, step by step

Each visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, clear away and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes a short visit for a small trap and longer for an inline unit or interceptor. Many London buildings have a managing agent, a security desk or a permit-to-work system, so tell us who to contact in Ruislip.

  1. We start by finding the trap and checking its inlet and outlet.
  2. The sinks feeding the trap are kept out of use while we work.
  3. Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
  4. The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
  5. The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.

How to prepare

Advice

What grease trap cleaning looks like in Ruislip

Food Standards Agency records include about 25 bars, pubs and nightclubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Ruislip. Wherever they cook, the kitchen and its drains need the same attention as a restaurant’s. Environmental health officers from Hillingdon council inspect food businesses in Ruislip. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. Photos and dates from each deep clean make a useful record. Night work is normal for London kitchens, and the kitchen is handed back ready for the morning.

A summer deep clean suits schools such as Warrender Primary School, as the kitchen can be stripped back with no lunches to serve. If you run a care home or healthcare kitchen near Ruislip (the nearest hospital is Northwood and Pinner Cottage Hospital, about 1.9 miles north), a grease trap on a set schedule avoids a blocked drain mid-service. If you run a kitchen in an older building near Ruislip, such as a historic house like Ickenham Hall (about 1.7 miles south-west), older drains make a working grease trap all the more important.

How we price grease trap cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • The condition of the system
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The size of the system

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from photos or on site, and the price is agreed before work begins.

What to send for a quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • The postcode and the type of business

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we start.

Between visits

Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Use strainers in the sink plugholes
  • Keep access to the trap clear
  • Don’t wait for a blockage to book a clean
  • Tell us when sinks start draining slowly

The sinks are ready to use as soon as we’ve finished. We run water through to check it drains before we go.

If the sinks are slow or smelly, the trap may be full. Acting at this stage normally prevents a blockage later.

Common questions in Ruislip

Can school kitchens in Ruislip be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. There are about 28 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Ruislip. Send us your term dates when you call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will fit the work in.

Do you work at weekends in Ruislip?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. Your customers, staff or residents in Ruislip needn’t be disturbed. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Do you deal with blocked drains beyond the grease trap?

Our service covers the grease trap itself. If the drain beyond the trap is blocked or damaged, we will tell you and suggest a drainage contractor.

What does TR19 mean?

A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that cannot wait. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

How regularly does a grease trap need emptying?

There’s no single answer. We look at how full the trap is and how quickly it fills, then suggest a schedule.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

It depends on the building. The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty on the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.

Leave it or put it right?

A smelly, overflowing trap attracts pests. Keeping the trap clean removes something they’re looking for as part of a clean kitchen. Planning ahead in Ruislip lets you pick a quiet night rather than lose a busy one.

How the job changes from site to site

Grease interceptors

An interceptor works on the same principle as a smaller trap. Grease floats and solids sink.

Baffles and outlets

Baffles inside the trap slow the water so grease can separate. Grease clings to them, so we clean them.
