Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Hampstead
A grease trap catches fats, oils and grease from the kitchen sinks before they reach the drain. As the waste water cools, the grease floats and stays in the trap, and clean water flows on. Over time, the trap fills up and needs emptying and cleaning. If you have a regular cleaning plan for the grease trap and an overdue grease trap, we can put it right.
London’s sewers are known for fatbergs, built up from fat, oil and grease washed down drains. A grease trap that is emptied and cleaned regularly keeps fat out of the drains.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

How it works
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. Many London buildings have a managing agent, a security desk or a permit-to-work system, so tell us who to contact in Hampstead.
- We start by finding the trap and checking its inlet and outlet.
- We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
- Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
- The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
- We put it back together, run water through and remove the waste.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
Ask for a quote
To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Then call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Fixed quotes for grease trap cleaning in Hampstead
There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- The number of sites or systems
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you’ll get one fixed quote.
What we need to know
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The postcode and the type of business
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.
What grease trap cleaning looks like in Hampstead
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 7 food manufacturers and packers within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Hampstead. For food producers, the grease trap schedule should follow the volume going through it. In Hampstead, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Camden council. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day. Fat from London kitchens contributes to sewer blockages, which is why grease traps need emptying on a schedule.
Healthcare kitchens cook through the year, so a deep clean has to be fitted around meals; New End Hospital, about within half a mile north, is the nearest hospital to Hampstead. If you serve passing trade near Finchley Road & Frognal station, a grease trap on a regular schedule keeps the drains running through busy weeks.
Hampstead is about 3 miles north-west of City of Westminster, in Greater London. Whatever kind of site you run in Hampstead, grease trap cleaning is something we can help with. We can work out of hours so the site keeps running. We cover 764 places across Greater London, large and small.
Work in NW3, NW6, NW11 and N2 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. Whether your site is on Hampstead High Street, New End Square and The Mount Square or anywhere close by, we can help. You’ll find Hampstead on the A1 and A502, so it’s easy for us to get to for out-of-hours visits. Close by, we work in Greenhill (1 mile north-east), West Hampstead (1 mile west), Fortune Green (1 mile west), Vale of Health (1 mile north) and South Hampstead (1 mile south). Within a short drive, we also cover London (5 miles south-east), City of Westminster (3 miles south-east), Marylebone (3 miles south-east), Kensington (4 miles south), St Pancras (3 miles south-east) and Shoreditch (5 miles south-east). Hampstead is among the bigger places we cover in Greater London for grease trap cleaning.
Around Hampstead

Also close by are King William IV Public House (within half a mile north-east) and Cecil Sharp House (1.7 miles south-east). There’s a railway station in Hampstead itself: Finchley Road & Frognal station. A little further out are Isokon Gallery (0.8 miles east) and New End Hospital (less than half a mile north). Green spaces nearby include Belsize Wood and The Long Water.
Hampstead: your questions answered
Do you work in school kitchens around Hampstead out of term?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 67 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Hampstead, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Hampstead?
Kitchens in Hampstead are inspected by Camden council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look behind equipment and at drains, so it pays to have the deep clean booked before those areas build up.
What does TR19 mean?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.
What types of premises do you cover?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
How regularly does a grease trap need emptying?
There’s no single answer. We look at how full the trap is and how quickly it fills and we will advise on timing.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. We always survey first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where needed. Then you get a fixed quote.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

Do you need grease trap cleaning in Hampstead?
If a trap is not emptied, grease passes straight through. It then builds up in the drains and on towards the sewer, where it can cause blockages.
Common reasons sites call us are:
- A larger grease trap that needs emptying
- A blocked kitchen drain caused by grease
- A regular cleaning plan for the grease trap
- An under-sink unit that needs regular emptying
Hall and church kitchens, near St John-at-Hampstead church or anywhere around Hampstead, are used by many hands, and periodic deep cleans and grease trap visits keep them in order.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Multi-site and managed buildings
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Keeping the system healthy
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Tell us when sinks start draining slowly
- Fit sink strainers to catch food scraps
- Mention any increase in cooking
- Never pour used oil down the sink
Once the trap is cleaned and refitted, the sinks can be used right away. Water is run through to check everything flows before we leave.
If the kitchen has got busier, the trap fills faster. Booking cleans more often keeps the drains flowing.
What grease trap cleaning can’t fix
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- A trap undersized for the amount of cooking
- Drains that need jetting rather than trap cleaning
- Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly.
