Our kitchen extract cleaning service in W1T

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. We are often asked to deal with cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey and years of baked-on grease in the ducts, on vertical risers, horizontal duct runs and extract fans.

Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one, and the area is cleaned down before we leave.

  1. We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
  2. We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
  5. Readings and pictures are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

What you will pay

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Ask for a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before we start.

Kitchen extract cleaning across W1T: local notes

Kitchens across W1T cook for very different hours, from all-day town-centre sites to part-time hall and school kitchens. Grease readings and BESA’s minimum intervals set the schedule for each.

London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. Wherever the site is in W1T, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.

Marylebone: For kitchens close to Bond Street station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Respiratory Clinical Trials about less than half a mile north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

What we’re called out for in W1T

It’s common for parts of a duct to have been missed for years. The usual reason is a lack of access panels, so nobody could get to them. That hidden grease keeps building where nobody looks.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • A TR19 certificate needed for the insurer
  • Grease smells coming from the extract
  • Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
  • Fat running down the canopy edge

Part by part

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Grills, fryers and woks send a lot of fat into the extract, so grease readings help set the right interval.

Canopy and plenum

Behind the grease filters sits the plenum, which daily cleaning never reaches. With the filters out, the plenum is scraped and degreased.

Why act early?

Every week without a clean adds another layer. Under BESA guidance, grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere reaching 500 microns or more needs a spot clean right away. The longer it’s left, the bigger the job becomes.

Comparing quotes

  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • What records you’ll receive afterwards

Between visits

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
  • Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
  • Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate
  • Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly

We hand the kitchen back clean, with the sheeting removed and waste taken away. Grease and dirty water are collected and taken off site, so you can start cooking as normal.

Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.

Honest limits

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • Fire dampers that won’t close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains
