Grease filter exchange in The Pound
Filter exchange sits between full TR19® cleans. Fresh filters help limit what gets into the ductwork, but some grease still passes through as vapour. So the canopy, plenum and ducts still need their full TR19 clean. We are often asked to deal with bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly and a canopy running with filters missing, across wall canopies, baffle filters and island canopies.
Work in a small place like The Pound starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

The process
The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes well under an hour for most canopies, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. For a village or hamlet like The Pound, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- We record the number, size and type of your filters.
- We set the interval with you.
- On each visit, we remove the greasy filters.
- A clean set is fitted and checked for gaps.
- We take the greasy set away and confirm the next date.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Getting a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What affects the quote in The Pound
The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:
- The size of the system
- The number of sites or systems
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Travel, parking and unloading
The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
Helping us quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- A few general shots of the system
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.
Grease, kitchens and The Pound
We cover The Pound, about 46 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included. The Pound is covered by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Parish Church of St Peter or anywhere around The Pound, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.
The Pound is about 5 miles north-west of Bexhill-on-Sea, in East Sussex. Across the TN33 area, we cover grease filter exchange for commercial sites. Across East Sussex, we cover 289 places, and The Pound is one of them. We also work in Brighton, around 23 miles away.
We cover every part of TN33 for grease filter exchange and the roads nearby. Streets in the area include Church Road and Linghams Lane, all of which we cover for grease filter exchange. We also cover Ashburnham (1 mile north), Brownbread Street (1 mile north-west), Bodle Street Green (2 miles west), Wood's Corner (3 miles north) and Trolliloes (3 miles west). We also work in nearby towns such as Eastbourne (9 miles south-west), Hastings (8 miles east), Bexhill-on-Sea (5 miles south-east), Seaford (15 miles south-west), Hailsham (7 miles south-west) and Crowborough (14 miles north-west).
Around The Pound
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Ashburnham Park and The Ash Tree Inn, among other places. The Pound’s nearest station is Battle station, roughly 4.5 miles east. A little further out are Bexhill Hospital (5.2 miles south-east) and Herstmonceux Castle (3.3 miles south-west). Open spaces near The Pound include Senlac Hill.
Keeping the system healthy
Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Do not let the full clean slip because filters are changed
- Let us know if your cooking hours increase
- Watch for grease drips between visits
- Always run the extract while cooking
We tell you if we spot anything in the canopy that needs attention. That might mean bringing a TR19® clean forward and we can book that in.
A kitchen that is getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Changing the interval early stops grease building up unseen behind the canopy.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
Your questions about grease filter exchange in The Pound
Who inspects food businesses in The Pound?
Food hygiene inspections in The Pound are carried out by Rother council. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.
Is The Pound within the area you cover?
Yes. The Pound is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
What paperwork should we keep on file?
Every certificate and report from each visit, kept together in your maintenance log with your in-house cleaning records. BESA says certificates should show the date, location and technician.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Every job is surveyed first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.
What types of filter do you exchange?
We exchange baffle and mesh filters. We record the sizes and number of filters at the start so every set we bring fits.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry full insurance and have been trading since 2009.
Signs you need grease filter exchange in The Pound
However long the kitchen cooks each day, the filters see every minute of it. Heavy daily use means fast build-up so changes need to come round sooner.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Staff short of time to wash filters
- Damaged filters letting grease past
- Filters that come out of the sink still dirty
- Blocked baffle filters
A hospital like Bexhill Hospital, about 5.2 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
Questions to ask before booking
- If they look at the system before pricing
- Whether the quote shows VAT
- What records you will receive afterwards
- Whether the figure could change on the day
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
What the work involves, part by part
Mesh filters
Mesh filters use layers of metal mesh to trap grease. In a busy kitchen, mesh soon blocks, so they need changing often.
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens
When service is non-stop, filters get forgotten. A regular exchange means nobody has to remember.
