How we handle grease filter exchange in Eastbourne
We run grease filter exchange for all kinds of kitchens in Eastbourne, whether there’s one canopy or many. We can come before or after service, so cooking is not interrupted. If you have staff short of time to wash filters and filters so greasy the air can barely pass, we can help, from wall canopies, school and hospital kitchens and mesh filters onwards.
A place as big as Eastbourne has kitchens of every kind, from takeaways and restaurants to school, hotel and staff kitchens. BESA’s minimum intervals run from every three months for heavy use to once a year for light use, so the right schedule depends on the kitchen.
The report is your system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

What grease filter exchange looks like in Eastbourne
Eastbourne lies within about 1 mile of the sea. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. The Food Standards Agency lists about 36 pubs and bars and about 33 hotels and guest houses as registered food businesses within about 1.5 miles of central Eastbourne. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Fire safety in Eastbourne falls to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Andrew, or anywhere in Eastbourne, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Eastbourne District General Hospital (about 0.9 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you run a café or takeaway near Hampden Park station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.
Eastbourne is in East Sussex. Eastbourne gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with pictures. Across East Sussex, we cover 289 places, and Eastbourne is one of them. There’s also a page for Brighton, roughly 19 miles from Eastbourne.
We cover every part of BN23, BN22, BN21 and BN20 for grease filter exchange and the streets around it. That includes premises on Vine Square, Ashford Square and Howard Square and nearby roads. With the A22 and A259 close by, Eastbourne is simple for us to get to for grease filter exchange. Close by, we work in Hampden Park (1 mile north-west), Upperton (1 mile south-west), Old Town (1 mile south-west), Ratton Village (2 miles west) and Meads (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Hastings (13 miles north-east), Bexhill-on-Sea (9 miles north-east), Seaford (8 miles west), Lewes (14 miles north-west), Hailsham (6 miles north) and St Leonards (13 miles east). Being one of East Sussex’s larger places, Eastbourne has commercial sites of every size, all within our area for grease filter exchange.

What a clean won’t put right
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control
- A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system
- A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think before you book.
Parts of the system we cover
- Baffle filters
- Wall canopies
- Mesh filters
- Island canopies
- School and hospital kitchens
- Restaurants and pubs
What staff can safely do
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

What affects the quote in Eastbourne
Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- The size of the system
- The condition we find in the survey
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- Whether several sites go on one quote
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form for straight advice and a fixed quote.
What we need to know
Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- The site address and the type of premises
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you’ll typically have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Eastbourne
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
How the job changes from site to site
Mesh filters
Layers of mesh catch grease droplets. In a busy kitchen, mesh soon blocks, so they need changing often.
Canopy filter housings
The filter housing holds each filter at an angle in the canopy. A damaged housing leaves gaps.
Between visits
So the system stays in good health:
- Tell us if the menu or opening hours change
- Never cook with the extract switched off
- Look out for drips from the canopy
- Don’t refit a filter that’s bent
We tell you if we spot anything in the canopy that needs attention. It can be a sign that a full TR19® clean is due and we can book that in.
Saturated filters let more grease through. A regular cycle keeps the rest of the system cleaner between full cleans.
How it works
Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. In the busier parts of Eastbourne, parking and roof access are the main things to plan.
- The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
- We set the interval with you.
- On each visit, we remove the greasy filters.
- A clean set is fitted and checked for gaps.
- The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.
Preparing for the visit
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Move anything stored near the system
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
Getting a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Advice
Eastbourne questions
Which environmental health team covers Eastbourne?
The local authority for Eastbourne is Eastbourne council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
Can you come to Eastbourne after we close?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. It means the site in Eastbourne keeps running as normal. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No. The law sets the duty, and TR19® is the recognised benchmark for meeting it. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and many insurers can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of cleaning.
Which grease filters does the service cover?
Baffle filters and mesh filters. Mention how many canopies you have when you get in touch, or we’ll check on the first visit.
Which sectors do you work in?
We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.
Will I get paperwork for my records?
Yes. It’s the record insurers and inspectors ask to see: a dated report with pictures, listing the work and any areas we couldn’t reach.
Are you accredited?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
How often should grease filters be changed?
It depends on how much and what the kitchen cooks. Heavy cooking means more frequent changes than lighter ones. We agree the interval with you.
