Extract fan cleaning for sites in South Ealing

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. A name and number for whoever controls access to the building in South Ealing saves time on the night.

  1. The fan is found and its type, access and isolation checked.
  2. It’s isolated so it can’t run while we work.
  3. We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
  4. Blades, housing and surrounds are degreased with care around the electrics.
  5. We reassemble, run and photograph the fan.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Clear the space around the work

Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in South Ealing

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you’re dealing with a smell of hot grease from the extract and a fan shaking on its mounts, we can help.

In a London area like South Ealing, a kitchen extract often passes through shared space on its way out: a riser, a service void, the floors above. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, so a regular TR19® clean protects everyone in it.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

How we price extract fan cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Why it’s worth doing now in South Ealing

For a kitchen in South Ealing, a noisy, greasy fan is often the first sign the whole system is overdue. Grease on the fan means grease in the duct before it, so it’s worth checking the whole system. Choosing the date yourself beats having a fault choose it for you.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Check the report shows the fan was cleaned
  • Flag smoke lingering at the canopy
  • Keep records of every fan clean
  • Don’t store items in front of the fan’s access point

You get before and after pictures of the impeller and housing. It notes what was done and anything that couldn’t be reached, along with the recommended next clean date.

Keep the route to the fan clear. A fan that can be reached safely is a fan that gets cleaned, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.

Grease, kitchens and South Ealing

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 87 pubs and bars and about 13 hotels and guest houses within about 1.5 miles of central South Ealing. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. It’s Ealing council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in South Ealing. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. In London, kitchens are usually cleaned overnight, when the kitchen is closed and loading is easier.

Commuter trade near Brentford station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Ealing Hospital (about 1.7 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Church and community hall kitchens, near St Mary's Church or anywhere around South Ealing, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

South Ealing questions

Do you clean school canteen extracts around South Ealing out of term?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Does London parking affect a job in South Ealing?

We plan it in advance, so let us know about loading bays, permits and access rules at the building. If the building has a loading slot system, we’ll book into it.

Do you work out of hours?

Yes. Give us your opening hours with your enquiry and we’ll plan the visit around them.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

Should the extract fan be cleaned as part of TR19?

Yes. A TR19 Grease clean covers everything from canopy to discharge, and the fan is a key part of it, so it’s cleaned too.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.

What types of premises do you cover?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. Work is timed around how each site runs.

When it’s something else

Extract fan cleaning can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It won’t put right:

  • Wiring faults to the fan
  • Damaged fan blades

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly before you book.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Different parts, different methods

Kitchens with long cooking hours

A long-hours kitchen can’t afford a fan failure. Keeping the fan clean is part of avoiding that, and our 24/7 emergency callout is there if it happens anyway.

Wall fans

The wall around a wall fan can be stained with grease. We clean the fan and check the outlet.
