Extract Fan Cleaning in Puddle Dock
Need extract fan cleaning in Puddle Dock? We survey first, send you a fixed quote and work around your opening hours, then sign off with a report and pictures.
- A fan left out of previous cleans
- Less air being pulled from the kitchen
- A fan shaking on its mounts
What happens if it’s left?
A fan that sounds rough in Puddle Dock is often telling you the extract needs a clean. If the fan is coated, the duct before it typically is too so a full TR19 clean may be due. London sites work long hours, and the longer a job is left, the bigger it gets.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.
Why choose Duct Doctor in Puddle Dock
- CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, with ISO 9001
- Every job surveyed first
- A written report with photos after every visit
- Fixed quotes, typically within one working day
How we handle extract fan cleaning in Puddle Dock
Think of the fan as the system’s heart and the grease as a clot. A heart under strain works harder for less. Our job is to clear it, check it runs smoothly and record what we found, before signing it off. The work covers axial fans, centrifugal fans and roof-mounted fans, and common reasons people get in touch are a motor area thick with grease and a fan that no longer moves enough air.
London kitchens tend to trade late and open early, so extract cleaning in Puddle Dock is typically done overnight, after the last service. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Look for grease stains near the discharge
- Keep the grease filters clean and in place
- Notice when the fan starts to sound different
- Check the report shows the fan was cleaned
Once it’s clean, the fan is closed up and run to check it’s working smoothly. Anything we notice, like noise, vibration or a worn part, goes on the report, so you can plan any repair.
Do not run the kitchen with the extract off. Air that keeps moving carries vapour out rather than letting it settle, so keeping it running helps keep it clean.
What we are called out for in Puddle Dock
A greasy fan in Puddle Dock is fuel at the end of the duct. A fire in the duct can reach the fan and the grease around it and an overworked motor runs hotter.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Rough running from the extract fan
- A fan that has never been cleaned
- Grease escaping from the fan outlet
- Hot, greasy smells near the fan
If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Puddle Dock (Hare Hall is about 4.1 miles north-west), fitting access panels needs care.
What your quote should include
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
- What paperwork you get at the end
- Proof of insurance
Puddle Dock kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 18 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 4 takeaways and sandwich shops in and around Puddle Dock, up to about a mile and a half out. Any of those kitchens with a canopy relies on a fan that gathers grease as it runs. Environmental health officers from Havering council inspect food businesses in Puddle Dock. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Puddle Dock sits within the area of London Fire Brigade. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.
For schools such as The James Oglethorpe Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Spire Hartswood Hospital is the nearest hospital to Puddle Dock, about 2.8 miles north.

Puddle Dock questions
Who is the fire and rescue service for Puddle Dock?
It’s London Fire Brigade, which covers Puddle Dock. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Does London parking affect a job in Puddle Dock?
Parking and loading in London need planning, so tell us about bays, permits and building rules when you book. Much of our London work is done overnight, which helps.
What paperwork do I get after a fan clean?
You get a photo report with before and after pictures of the fan. If it’s part of a full TR19 clean, a TR19 certificate is issued too.
How long is a fan clean?
Size, access and build-up all affect it. Typically it takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach.
What information do you need?
A short description and a few photos, with the address and opening hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.
Which accreditations do you hold?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.
What if the fan needs more than a clean?
A clean won’t mend wear. Where the fan needs repair or replacement, we can do that too, with a fixed quote first.
How it works
Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Expect the work in Puddle Dock to happen after your last customer leaves, not during trading.
- We find the fan and check how it’s reached and how it’s isolated.
- With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
- The impeller and the housing around it are scraped clean.
- We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
- The fan is put back into service, checked and photographed.
Getting ready for the visit
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
Ask for a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
What a clean won’t put right
In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- Electrical faults in the fan’s supply or controls (an electrician’s job)
- An undersized fan that can’t cope
- Damaged fan blades
