Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Tattenham Corner

Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, with each certificate issued through the BESCA portal. The work covers horizontal duct runs, attenuators and vertical risers, and the jobs we see most are fat dripping from the ductwork and heavy grease at the base of a riser.

For a kitchen in or near Tattenham Corner, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

A written report with pictures follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

The process

The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Tattenham Corner before we set off.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. We take grease readings along the route.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.

How to prepare

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

Getting a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

Managing agents and facilities teams in Tattenham Corner

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Surrey. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Leave a way through to the access panels
  • Make sure filters are seated properly
  • Diarise the next duct clean
  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking

When the duct is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It records the date, the location and the technician.

Keep the fan on throughout service. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

How the job changes from site to site

Multi-storey and shared buildings

In a building with several floors, the duct may pass other tenants’ spaces. We plan access with you and the building manager, so the clean is done safely and quietly.

Vertical risers

A riser takes the duct up through one or more floors. Grease collects on the walls and at the foot of the riser, which is one of the points we test.

Tattenham Corner kitchens: local notes

The Food Standards Agency lists about 5 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses in and around Tattenham Corner, up to about a mile and a half out. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Fire safety in Tattenham Corner falls to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. In-house cleaning or a specialist?

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Tattenham Corner questions

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Tattenham Corner during the holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. There are about 7 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Tattenham Corner. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Tattenham Corner?

The local authority for Tattenham Corner is Reigate and Banstead council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

How do you protect the area?

We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Will I get a report after the ducts are cleaned?

A photo report, with readings and before and after pictures, plus a TR19 certificate for a full system clean. It also gives a recommended next clean date.

How much notice should we give?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Every job is surveyed first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where needed. A fixed quote follows.

How long will the duct clean take?

Allow from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. We will confirm the time when we quote.

Common problems we fix in Tattenham Corner

Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

What we’re most often called out for:

  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
  • Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
  • Stale grease odours from the duct
  • Grease leaking from duct joints

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Tattenham Corner is Epsom General Hospital, about 1.7 miles north-west.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

Why it’s worth doing now in Tattenham Corner

A partly blocked duct slows the airflow. Less air moves, so heat and smoke stay in the kitchen while the fan strains, and grease may start to leak from joints. Somewhere as small as Tattenham Corner, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you’ll get one fixed quote.
