Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Great Burgh

In doctor’s terms, the ductwork is the system’s arteries: find the blockages, clear them, then check the flow is right. Grease readings before and after give you the evidence, alongside before and after pictures. If you are dealing with sections of duct with no access panels and years of grease along the duct floor, we can put it right.

Around a smaller place like Great Burgh, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

How we price ductwork cleaning

You will get a fixed price before we start. It takes into account:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

Helping us quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

What the work involves, part by part

Horizontal duct runs

Horizontal runs carry the extract along ceilings and through voids. They collect grease as the air cools and slows, so each section is cleaned through its access panels.

Attenuators and discharge

The last section of duct before the discharge is often the coolest, which can mean heavier deposits. We include it in the clean and the readings.

Honest limits

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Faulty fire dampers
  • Duct sections that need replacing
  • Ductwork that was poorly designed

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Bends and junctions
  • Access panels
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Attenuators

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Great Burgh

Damaged or poorly fitted filters let more grease into the duct. More grease reaches the ductwork than it should and it fills faster.

Clients normally contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned
  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
  • Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Epsom General Hospital about 1.9 miles north-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate

Questions from Great Burgh

Do you work overnight in Great Burgh?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. It means the site in Great Burgh keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Will you come out to Great Burgh?

Yes. Great Burgh is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

How long will the duct clean take?

It depends on the length of the duct, the number of access panels and how much grease there is. As a guide, it takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct.

How often should kitchen ducts be cleaned?

At least as often as BESA guidance sets for your cooking hours. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day means at least every 3 months, while lighter use can go longer.

What if part of the duct can’t be reached?

Any section we can’t reach is recorded on the report, in line with TR19. We can fit new access panels so they’re cleaned next time.

What do you do with what you remove?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for anything that can’t wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Your opening hours decide when we come to Great Burgh, not ours.

  1. First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
  3. We open the panels and scrape out the heaviest grease.
  4. Horizontal runs and risers are then degreased by the method that suits the deposit.
  5. We test again, take pictures and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

How to prepare

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Advice

For landlords and multi-site operators

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

Ductwork cleaning around Great Burgh

There are about 32 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 5 takeaways and sandwich shops in and around Great Burgh, up to about a mile and a half out, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. The duct above a busy canopy coats itself in grease long before anyone sees it. It’s Reigate and Banstead council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Great Burgh. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Fire safety in Great Burgh falls to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Mark or elsewhere in Great Burgh, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. For schools such as Shawley Community Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
