Need canopy cleaning in America Ground?

Canopy cleaning in America Ground, done properly

Think of the canopy as the mouth of the extract. A dirty canopy passes more grease further into the system. Our diagnosis starts there, and the cure is a thorough clean of the hood, the plenum and the filter housing. We are often asked to deal with filters that never seem to stay clean and greasy streaks across the canopy, on plenum chambers, wall canopies and canopy light fittings.

Around a smaller place like America Ground, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.

We’ve been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

Keeping the system healthy

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Give the canopy a wipe after service
  • Clean the baffle filters often
  • Check all filters are fitted before service
  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy

Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.

Don’t let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

Part by part

Wall canopies

The back of a wall canopy is hard to reach and easy to miss. With the filters out we can get to it and scrape it clean.

Grease troughs and gutters

Drips from the canopy edge often start in a full gutter. Cleaning it clears the drip.

Signs you need canopy cleaning in America Ground

Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. More grease reaches the plenum and housing than they’re designed to take, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
  • Grease filters blocking between washes
  • Grease channels that no longer drain

A kitchen near Hastings station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.

What your quote should include

  • Proof of accreditation you can verify

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Why deal with it now?

Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Heat from the range bakes canopy grease into a hard, dark layer, which makes a later clean slower and harder. Booking now means the visit to America Ground is planned around you, not forced by a breakdown.

The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Why book with us

  • Ventilation hygiene specialists since 2009
  • BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease

What we do, step by step

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. In a place like America Ground, we fit the visit around your hours.

  1. Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. You get photos of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Common questions in America Ground

Which environmental health team covers America Ground?

In America Ground, it’s Hastings council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you work in villages like America Ground?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, America Ground included. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can I just have the canopy cleaned instead of the whole system?

On its own, a canopy clean is a useful extra rather than a full TR19 clean. We will make clear on the report which parts were cleaned, so your records stay accurate.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

Do we need to close while you work?

Usually not. Booking the work out of hours means the site can carry on as normal. Bigger sites can be done in stages so parts stay in use.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Which accreditations do you hold?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

What canopy cleaning looks like in America Ground

The coast is only about 1 mile from America Ground. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. Food Standards Agency records include about 58 pubs, bars and clubs and about 15 hotels and B&Bs within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of America Ground. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. America Ground is covered by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Conquest Hospital (about 2.1 miles north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Holy Trinity Church or elsewhere in America Ground, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
