Kent · Canopy and hood cleaning
Way canopy cleaning
Canopy cleaning for commercial sites in Way and across Kent. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and fully insured.
- Condensation and grease dripping together
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
- Fat running down the front of the hood
What a clean won’t put right
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think before booking.
What the work covers

Canopy cleaning in Way
If the canopy in Way is dripping, sticky or overdue a clean? Send us a photo of the hood and filters when you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and you’ll get a fixed price, typically within one working day. If you have poor capture at the hood and a sticky, discoloured canopy, we can help.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.
The report is your system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

Way questions
Can you come to Way after we close?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The site is handed back ready to open. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
Which fire authority looks after Way?
Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Way. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Do we lose a day’s trading?
Not typically. The area we’re working in has to be out of use while we are there, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Every site has its own report.
Why is my canopy dripping grease?
Typically because the troughs or gutters are full, or the plenum is overloaded. With nowhere to collect, the grease overflows, and condensation can carry it too. Cleaning the canopy and plenum clears it.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, as well as food production and leisure sites.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.
Is the inside of the hood cleaned?
Everything from the outer face to the plenum behind the filters. Grease troughs and filter channels are emptied and degreased as part of the job.
Different parts, different methods
Wall canopies
At the back of the canopy, behind the filters, grease builds up unseen. We remove the filters to reach it and degrease it properly.
Island canopies
With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. Both sides are taken apart and cleaned.
Leave it or put it right?
A greasy canopy is fuel directly above the flame. A flare-up can catch it and be drawn into the plenum and duct, where a fire is much harder to stop. Cleaning it removes that fuel. In a small place like Way, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.
What you get with us
- Survey first, then a fixed quote
- In business since 2009
- CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001
- One contact for all your sites in London and the South East
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
Between visits
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Report new drips or smells from the canopy
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
- Clean the baffle filters often
We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.
Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.
What canopy cleaning looks like in Way
Way is within about 3 miles of the coast. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 4 pubs, bars and clubs across Way and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Food hygiene inspections in Way are the job of Thanet council’s environmental health team. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of Saint Mary the Virgin or elsewhere in Way, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Minster Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Ramsgate General Hospital about 3.5 miles east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.
Way is about 3 miles west of Ramsgate, in Kent. We carry out canopy cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Way and the rest of Kent. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, and Way is one of them. You can also see our page for Maidstone, about 35 miles away.
Postcode districts we cover here for canopy cleaning: CT12. Streets in the area include Wayborough Hill and Way Hill, and we cover them all for canopy cleaning. If your site is just outside Way, we cover Mount Pleasant (1 mile north-west), Sevenscore (1 mile south-east), Minster (1 mile west), Acol (1 mile north-west) and Cliffs End (2 miles south-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Canterbury (12 miles west), Margate (4 miles north-east), Dover (14 miles south), Ramsgate (3 miles east), Broadstairs (5 miles east) and Whitstable (13 miles west).
Local landmarks in Way
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Sandwich and Pegwell Bay and The Bell Inn and the streets around them. Way’s nearest station is Minster station, about 0.9 miles south-west. A little further out are Westwood Cross (3.1 miles north-east) and Ramsgate General Hospital (3.5 miles east). For a walk, there’s Sandwich and Pegwell Bay.
What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- How big the system is
- How many systems or sites are involved
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.
What to send for a quote
To speed up the quote, please include:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before work begins.
What happens on the day
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the job takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Way knowing what to expect.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.
