Looking after it afterwards

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy
  • Check filters are not leaving gaps
  • Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly

The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.

Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. More drips or quicker clogging often mean the cleaning interval needs looking at, which a grease thickness test can confirm.

Canopy cleaning in Sipson, done properly

Grease troughs, seams and the inside edge of the canopy are the spots a daily wipe misses. We scrape the heavy deposits, then degrease the surfaces with methods that suit the build-up, using hot water or steam where it helps. If you have condensation and grease dripping together and a filter housing caked in grease, we can put it right, from grease gutters, canopy light fittings and island canopies onwards.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. For a kitchen in Sipson, that normally means a longer system to clean and more access panels to plan around.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with photos after each visit, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Sipson questions

Do you work overnight in Sipson?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. That way a site in Sipson doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. When you ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, mention when the site is quiet.

Can school kitchens in Sipson be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 21 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Sipson. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that can’t wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.

How do you protect the area?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.

How long does canopy cleaning take?

Allow a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Your quote will give a time.

What should I send you?

Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

How much notice do you need?

Book as early as you can for planned work, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

What we are called out for in Sipson

Because the plenum sits behind the filters, it’s easy to forget. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.

Most sites get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Filters that never seem to stay clean
  • Condensation and grease dripping together
  • A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
  • A hood coated in old grease

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Osterley House is about 4.3 miles east), access may need planning.

Questions to ask before booking

  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • Whether a written report and pictures are included

Questions to ask before booking

When it’s something else

We will not sell you work that does not address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What the work covers

  • Plenum chambers
  • Wall canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. If your building in Sipson has sign-in rules, permits or key holders, mention them when you book.

  1. The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

Part by part

Plenums and filter housings

A plenum that hasn’t been cleaned for a long time can hold a thick layer of grease. Heavy deposits are scraped out by hand before degreasing.

Grease troughs and gutters

Many canopies have troughs or gutters around the edge to catch running grease. They’re emptied and cleaned during the job, so they can do their job again.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Sipson

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 73 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 32 sandwich bars and takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Sipson. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Kitchens in Sipson get their food hygiene inspections from Hillingdon council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. London Fire Brigade covers Sipson. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Harlington (about within half a mile south), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Cherry Lane Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.
