Heathrow questions
Is Heathrow within the area you cover?
Yes, Heathrow is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Heathrow?
It’s Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Heathrow. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
How much notice should we give?
Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.
Why does grease run off the canopy edge?
A canopy only holds so much grease. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. Cleaning removes the cause.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and the emergency line covers the rest.
What types of premises do you cover?
Commercial premises of every kind: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. The law sets the duty, and TR19® is the recognised benchmark for meeting it. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person has to manage fire risk, and many insurers can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of cleaning.
Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Heathrow
Canopy cleans are done out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. If you have grease filters blocking between washes and condensation running down the canopy, we can help, from canopy light fittings, plenum chambers and island canopies onwards.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

For landlords and multi-site operators
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Common problems we fix in Heathrow
Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips and runs with the grease. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.
What we’re most often called out for:
- Poor capture at the hood
- Wet, greasy drips from the hood
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
- A filter housing caked in grease
For schools such as Bedfont Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether they recommend a next date
- Whether VAT is included
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- Whether a survey comes first
How we price canopy cleaning
The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- Any permits to work or inductions
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- The condition we find in the survey
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.
What we need to know
Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Any previous report or certificate
- The postcode and the type of business
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before we start.

When it’s something else
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- Bent or broken filters
- A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out
- A dirty extract fan further along the system

Grease, kitchens and Heathrow
There are about 76 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 12 sandwich bars and takeaways across Heathrow and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half), according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Any of those kitchens with a canopy has a hood that needs cleaning inside and out. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service covers Heathrow. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Heathrow are the job of Hillingdon council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Osterley House is about 4.6 miles east), access may need planning. A kitchen near Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 Rail station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.
Heathrow is about 2 miles north-west of Feltham, in Surrey. Sites in Heathrow get the same service as everywhere we cover: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with pictures. Heathrow is one of 395 places in Surrey where we work for commercial clients. We also work in London, around 16 miles away.
Here we cover the TW6 postcode area for canopy cleaning. Near you in Heathrow
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around The Queen's Arms and Space Studio West London. There’s a railway station in Heathrow itself: Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 Rail station. Other landmarks nearby include Spelthorne Museum (3.5 miles south-west) and Harlington (1.6 miles north). Open spaces near Heathrow include Staines Reservoirs and Crane Meadows.
How it works
A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, make the system safe, do the work, tidy up and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Somewhere like Heathrow, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.
Before we arrive
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
Get a fixed quote
Getting a quote does not take long. Call or email with a few details and you will normally have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Part by part
Island canopies
Island canopies often have filters on two sides. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.
School and staff canteen kitchens
Lighter cooking still leaves grease on the canopy. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.
Between visits
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Give the canopy a wipe after service
- Report new drips or smells from the canopy
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Every filter is refitted and checked, and the kitchen is ready to cook.
Run the extract for as long as anything is cooking. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.
