East Sussex · Canopy and hood cleaning
Meads canopy cleaning
We cover Meads for deep cleaning of kitchen canopies, hoods, plenums and grease filters, inside and out. Out-of-hours visits, a fixed quote and a written report with photos as standard.
- An EHO comment about the canopy
- Filters that clog soon after cleaning
- Condensation running down the canopy
How it works
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. From there, it takes a few hours for most canopies. A site near Meads normally has room to park, so the questions are about access to the system and your hours.
- We look at the canopy first, from pictures or on a visit.
- Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Before we arrive
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
Getting a quote
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Canopy cleaning in Meads
Canopy cleans are done out of hours: after service, overnight or at the weekend. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. The work covers island canopies, canopy light fittings and grease gutters, and the jobs we see most are poor capture at the hood and filters that never seem to stay clean.
For a smaller kitchen near Meads, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.
The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Questions from Meads
Who is the fire and rescue service for Meads?
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Meads. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Does coastal air change anything about canopy cleaning in Meads?
It can. Meads is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.
Do you provide pictures of the cleaned canopy?
Every clean comes with a photo report, listing what was cleaned. Where the whole system is cleaned, you also get a TR19 certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
Why does grease run off the canopy edge?
Usually because the troughs or gutters are full, or the plenum is overloaded. With nowhere to collect, the grease overflows, and condensation can carry it too. Cleaning the canopy and plenum clears it.
Is the inside of the hood cleaned?
All of it: the outer surfaces, the inner skin, the seams and the troughs. We also remove the filters and clean the plenum and housing behind them because that’s often the dirtiest part.
How much does canopy cleaning cost in Meads?
We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before we start.
Which canopies and hoods do you clean?
Most commercial kitchen canopies, from one small hood to a long run of canopies. The survey tells us how best to clean yours, from photos or a visit.
What about areas you can’t get to?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.
Looking after it afterwards
Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:
- Never run the range with a filter out
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
- Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.
Do not let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Most canopy drips start with a full trough, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.
What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- How easy every part is to reach
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Problems your staff have spotted
Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Kitchen extracts in Meads
Sea air reaches Meads, which sits within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. Food Standards Agency records include about 28 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 25 hotels and B&Bs in and around Meads, up to about a mile and a half out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. It’s Eastbourne council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Meads. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Meads is Eastbourne District General Hospital, about 2.1 miles north. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St John the Evangelist or elsewhere in Meads, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

What’s near Meads
Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to Gildrege Park, Gildredge House and The Ship Inn. For rail, the closest station is Eastbourne station, roughly 1.1 miles north-east. Nearby you’ll also find Eastbourne District General Hospital (2.1 miles north) and Rnli Eastbourne Lifeboat Museum (0.9 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Combe Hill.
What canopy cleaning cannot fix
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A light fitting that doesn’t work
- A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

How the job changes from site to site
Grease troughs and gutters
Grease channels around the canopy collect what runs down the inside. They’re emptied and cleaned during the job, so they can do their job again.
Plenums and filter housings
Behind the grease filters is the plenum. Grease that slips past the filters settles there, and it’s cleaned every time we clean the canopy.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
Leave it or put it right?
For a kitchen in Meads, a canopy that looks greasy can colour a whole inspection. Keeping it clean shows the rest of the kitchen is being looked after and keeping it that way is easier than catching up. In a smaller place like Meads, a site that has to close is felt quickly.
One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. You will have a fixed price before any work starts.
