Canopy and hood cleaning in Old Town, East Sussex
We cover Old Town for canopy cleaning. Out-of-hours visits, a fixed quote and a written report with pictures as standard.
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- Filters that never seem to stay clean
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
Different parts, different methods
Grease troughs and gutters
Grease channels around the canopy collect what runs down the inside. They’re emptied and cleaned during the job, so they can do their job again.
Wall canopies
A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.
Canopy cleaning in Old Town
If the canopy in Old Town is dripping, sticky or overdue a clean? Send us a photo of the hood and filters when you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we will give you a fixed quote for canopy cleaning, usually within one working day. Common call-outs are for poor capture at the hood and a plenum thick with grease behind the filters, across canopy light fittings, baffle filters and island canopies.
In a smaller place like Old Town, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

How it works
A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, make the system safe, carry out the canopy cleaning, tidy up and leave you the report. On site, the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Old Town.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
- Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
- We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
- You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
Getting ready for the visit
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
How to get a quote
For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You will usually have a quote within one working day.
Advice
Leave it or put it right?
A greasy canopy is fuel directly above the flame. A flare-up can catch it and be drawn into the plenum and duct, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. Light use slows the build-up but does not stop it.
We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we will talk you through it.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Old Town
Does the sea air around Old Town make a difference to canopy cleaning?
It can. Old Town is within about 2 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. We look at fans, cowls and fixings for rust as well as grease.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Old Town?
It’s East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Old Town. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
When do you clean the canopy?
Out-of-hours cleans are how we work, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. We leave it clean and ready for the next service.
Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?
That depends on who controls the premises. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We are fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.
Does a canopy clean meet TR19?
A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.
What should I send you?
A short description and a few pictures plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we will ask.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Old Town
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across East Sussex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.
Canopy cleaning in Old Town: the local picture
Old Town is within about 2 miles of the coast. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 31 pubs and bars and about 26 hotels and guest houses in Old Town and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. In Old Town, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Eastbourne council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Old Town, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If you cook for passing trade around Eastbourne station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

What’s near Old Town
Typical jobs here are in premises near Motcombe Infants' School, Gildrege Park and WMG Academy for Young Engineers and the streets around them. Old Town’s nearest station is Eastbourne station, roughly 0.7 miles east of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Eastbourne District General Hospital (1 mile north) and Pevensey Castle (4.4 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Combe Hill.
What staff can safely do
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
Honest limits
Canopy cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It will not put right:
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
- A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out
- A canopy undersized for the equipment
If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
Parts of the system we cover
- Island canopies
- Wall canopies
- Plenum chambers
- Canopy light fittings
- Baffle filters
- Grease gutters
Signs you need canopy cleaning in Old Town
A canopy with gaps around its filters lets grease straight through. The plenum and housing behind them then take far more grease than they should, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- An EHO comment about the canopy
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- Grease dripping from the canopy edge
- A filter housing caked in grease
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Eastbourne District General Hospital about 1 mile north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.
