Grease filter exchange for sites in Meads

Grease filter exchange in Meads, done properly

Think of filter exchange as routine care for the extract. Between full cleans, it keeps the airflow healthy and takes a messy task off your team. The full TR19 clean then gives the system its clean bill of health. The work covers restaurants and pubs, baffle filters and island canopies, and the jobs we see most are hand-washed filters that still look greasy and missing filters in the filter bank.

Kitchens around a place like Meads are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Why deal with it now?

In Meads, as everywhere, a filter service isn’t a substitute for TR19 cleaning. They do help keep the system in better shape between cleans, and that shows when the next clean comes round. Booking now means the visit to Meads is planned around you, not forced by a breakdown.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before we start.

Why book with us

  • Survey first, then a fixed quote
  • Work around your opening hours, with 24/7 emergency cover
  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001

How the visit works

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes well under an hour for most canopies. In a smaller place like Meads, parking is rarely the issue, but tell us about gates, roof access and opening hours.

  1. First, we check the canopies and the filters in them.
  2. We note any filters that are bent, damaged or missing.
  3. Greasy filters are swapped for clean ones.
  4. The filters are checked for fit before we go.
  5. We tell you if the plenum or canopy needs a clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

What a clean will not put right

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A canopy that needs a proper clean
  • Extraction problems caused by the fan rather than the filters
  • Grease deep in the extract system

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Mesh filters
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies

Keeping the system healthy

Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Clean the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Report damaged filters so they can be replaced
  • Look out for drips from the canopy
  • Don’t let the full clean slip because filters are changed

Between visits, check that every filter is still in place. Gaps let grease into the plenum so tell us if you need a replacement.

Filter exchange and TR19 cleaning work best together. A maintenance plan that covers both means neither slips.

Grease filter exchange around Meads

Sea air reaches Meads, which sits within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 177 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 28 takeaways and sandwich shops within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Meads. Clogged filters slow the airflow, and busy kitchens like these clog them fast. Kitchens in Meads get their food hygiene inspections from Eastbourne council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Eastbourne District General Hospital about 2.1 miles north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St John the Evangelist or elsewhere in Meads, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Meads questions

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Meads out of term?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 5 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Meads, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Meads?

Meads is in the area of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

What does grease filter exchange cost?

Filters, canopies and how often you need visits all affect the price. Send us details or photos and we’ll quote, normally within one working day.

What’s TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. The report recommends when the next visit should be, based on what we found and how the system is used.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Is Meads in your area?

Yes. Our technicians work in Meads, as part of our area across London and the South East.

What affects the quote in Meads

You’ll get a fixed price before we start. It’s based on:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • The size of the system
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.

Different parts, different methods

Canopy filter housings

The trough or channel under the filters fills with grease. If it needs attention, we will tell you.

Baffle filters

Baffle filters use overlapping metal blades that force the air to change direction. Grease drops out as it does.
