Freshwater canopy cleaning
Canopy cleaning across Freshwater and nearby, booked around your opening hours and signed off in writing with photos.
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
- Condensation running down the canopy
- Filters that never seem to stay clean
How we handle canopy cleaning in Freshwater
We clean canopies in Freshwater when the kitchen is not cooking: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted so the kitchen is ready when we go. We’re often asked to deal with smoke hanging around the canopy during service and a plenum thick with grease behind the filters, on grease gutters, baffle filters and island canopies.
Size doesn’t change the work: a kitchen in a place like Freshwater gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.
Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

The process
We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes a few hours for most canopies. Visits to a place like Freshwater are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the survey says the job needs.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- We protect everything below once it has cooled.
- Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
- We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
- You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
Before we arrive
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Clear loose items from the work area
How to get a quote
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Why deal with it now?
Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, so the longer it’s left, the longer the clean takes. Around Freshwater, a kitchen or building out of action is missed straight away.
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What the work involves, part by part
Wall canopies
A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. The joint between canopy and wall is a common grease trap, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.
Grease troughs and gutters
A blocked or full trough is the usual cause of grease dripping from the canopy. We clean it out so the grease has somewhere to go.
Do you need canopy cleaning in Freshwater?
The plenum is hidden behind the filters, so nobody sees it build up. Kitchen staff clean what they can see, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
- Filters that clog soon after cleaning
- Drips from the canopy onto the range
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Mottistone Manor is about 4.6 miles south-east), access may need planning.
Comparing quotes
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
- Whether they recommend a next date
- Whether the figure could change on the day

Freshwater questions
Who is the fire and rescue service for Freshwater?
That is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Freshwater?
That’s Isle of Wight council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Freshwater. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
Do you cover Freshwater?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, Freshwater included.
Is the inside of the hood cleaned?
We clean the canopy inside and out, including the seams, troughs and gutters. The plenum and filter housing behind the filters are cleaned too.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, we are fully insured. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.
How do you protect the area?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.
What types of premises do you cover?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
Multi-site and managed buildings
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Freshwater kitchens: local notes
Freshwater is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. Food Standards Agency records list about 18 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 5 takeaways and sandwich shops in and around Freshwater, up to about a mile and a half out. Any of those kitchens with a canopy has a hood that needs cleaning inside and out. In Freshwater, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Isle of Wight council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
Bursars and site managers at schools such as All Saints Church of England Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Church and community hall kitchens, near All Saints' Church or anywhere around Freshwater, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

What a clean will not put right
Canopy cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What affects the quote in Freshwater
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The condition we find in the survey
- A single visit or a regular plan
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and the price is agreed before work begins.
Asking for a quote
A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
