About our canopy cleaning in Falmer

We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you’re dealing with grease channels that no longer drain and smoke hanging around the canopy during service, we can put it right.

For a kitchen in or near Falmer, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

How it works

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours for most canopies. The timing of a visit to Falmer is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
  2. The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
  5. We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

How we price canopy cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We take into account:

  • The size of the system
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The number of sites or systems
  • The condition we find in the survey

You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What we need to know

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

For canopy cleaning in Falmer, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line. Let us know the site type and the opening hours, and send photos or your last report if you can. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.

How the job changes from site to site

Wall canopies

Long wall canopies often have several filter banks. We work along the canopy section by section, with photos for each.

Grease troughs and gutters

Some troughs drain to a cup or drawer, we empty and clean that as well, and we will show staff where it is.

When something else is needed

We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Multi-site and managed buildings

For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Grease, kitchens and Falmer

The Food Standards Agency lists about 4 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses across Falmer and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Environmental health officers from Lewes council inspect food businesses in Falmer. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service covers Falmer. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Church and community hall kitchens, near The Parish Church of St Lawrence or anywhere around Falmer, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Brighton General Hospital (about 2.8 miles south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Falmer is about 3 miles north-east of Brighton, in Brighton and Hove. We carry out canopy cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in Falmer and the rest of Brighton and Hove. Our Brighton and Hove coverage runs to 30 places, Falmer among them.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Between visits

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Wipe the canopy down at close every day
  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Keep filters on a set cleaning routine

Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.

Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.

Falmer questions

Can you get to a site in Falmer?

Yes, Falmer is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Which environmental health team covers Falmer?

Food hygiene inspections in Falmer are carried out by Lewes council. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Are the filters cleaned too?

They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.

What types of premises do you cover?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. We fit the work around how the site operates.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

How long is a canopy clean?

Allow an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Your quote will give a time.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, fully. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.

Which canopies and hoods do you clean?

Most commercial kitchen canopies, from one small hood to a long run of canopies. We work out the approach when we survey, from pictures or a visit.
