Grease filter exchange across Falmer

Grease filter exchange for kitchens and businesses in Falmer

Each visit is quick and tidy. The greasy filters come out, clean ones go in and make sure there are no gaps between them. If something looks wrong, we tell you. The work covers baffle filters, island canopies and school and hospital kitchens, and common reasons people get in touch are smoke and heat lingering under the hood and filters that leave gaps in the canopy.

In a village or hamlet like Falmer, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Brighton and Hove. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.

Different parts, different methods

School, care home and staff kitchens

A longer exchange interval may suit lighter cooking. The interval is set to fit.

Baffle filters

When baffles fill with grease, less air gets through. Swapping them for a clean set restores it.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, which takes well under an hour for most canopies. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Falmer knowing what to expect.

  1. First, we record the size, type and number of filters in each canopy.
  2. Together we set how often the filters should be changed.
  3. Each visit starts with the used filters being removed.
  4. Clean filters go straight back in, seated properly with no gaps.
  5. If a filter is damaged or the plenum needs attention, we tell you.

How to prepare

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

Ask for a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Advice

What your team can do, and what needs us

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Falmer questions

Is Falmer within the area you cover?

Yes, Falmer is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Falmer?

Falmer is in the area of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Which accreditations do you hold?

Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

Which records should we keep?

The reports and certificates from each visit, plus your own logs. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs may all ask to see them, so keep them where they can be found quickly.

Does the report say when we need you again?

Yes. The report recommends when the next visit should be, based on use and what we found.

What a clean will not put right

We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Grease behind the filters that a swap can’t remove
  • An extract that was undersized from the start
  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think.

Grease, kitchens and Falmer

Food Standards Agency records list about 21 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 3 takeaways in Falmer and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Each canopy among them has filters that load with grease and need swapping or cleaning. In Falmer, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Lewes council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Falmer sits within the area of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Where a hall near The Parish Church of St Lawrence, or anywhere in Falmer, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. For schools such as Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning
  • Never leave gaps in the filter bank
  • Let us know if your cooking hours increase
  • Do not refit a filter that’s bent

Your next visit is scheduled before we leave. If the kitchen gets busier, the interval can be shortened to keep up.

Filters that are left too long stop protecting the system. Getting onto a regular exchange now keeps grease out of the plenum and ductwork until the next TR19 clean.

Signs you need grease filter exchange in Falmer

Every fry, grill and sauté sends grease-laden vapour upwards. Much of it is trapped by the filters so they gradually clog until the air can barely get through.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Drips falling from the filters onto equipment
  • Filters that come out of the sink still dirty
  • A greasy plenum behind the filters
  • Gaps where filters have been removed

For kitchens close to Falmer station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

Questions to ask before booking
